Hi all!

40 weeks with my second! Had a sweep at 3.30pm and contractions started at 8pm. Having them every 4 minutes lasting 50 seconds and my god they are painful!

of course went straight in to assessment as was convinced she’d be here soon and I was only 1cm!!! Been sent home and had some paracetamol but the contractions are so, so painful! Im struggling to breathe through them.

anyone else had anything similar happen and dilated quite quickly?!!

Me! I went from 1cm to 4cm in the space of 3 hours.
I was fully dilated 3.5hours after that. I was back to back and contractions where awful until I had the most amazing epidural. Gas and air just made me sick.

babyyodaxmas · 06/10/2022 01:21

2nd baby went from 4cm to 7 in one contraction to 10cm the next. 2nd babies can be quick.

hownice · 06/10/2022 01:24

When I went out of breath during the contractions I went to the hospital and was exactly 4cm's at 9pm. I delivered at around 4.30am after midnight. I was 10 cm by 3:30am. I also had epidural at 7-8cm. This was my first baby though. Second babies can be quick as the pp pointed out.

2am I was 2cm dilated, then later on that day around 1/2pm ish I was 10cm.

The epidural was amazing! Can't believe at one point I considered not having it.

SunshineAndSummer · 06/10/2022 01:55

Just to mention mine was first, I know they say second baby comes quicker. And wishing you all the best!!

Went in at 10am with my second as contractions were bad. I was half a cm so sent home again. Laboured at home all day with only paracetamol. It was really rough. Went in again at 4pm as I couldn’t cope anymore. Only 2 and a half so they were going to send me home again. I begged to stay and have more pain relief. They said I could only stay if I had pethidine which I really wanted to avoid as last time it made me continuously throw up, but I was desperate so agreed.

My waters broke about 2 hours later and I continuously screamed for an epidural. Apparently I was only 3 and a half cm and they wouldn’t let me have one until 4cm. I was still not in the labour ward at this time, but the head midwife overruled everyone who said to leave me there and told them to move me to delivery.

That was a fun elevator ride. Entered stage 2 about 30 minutes later. Baby came out in 10 minutes. So I went from 3 and a half to 10 cm in 30 minutes.

I was in shock ahahah. Didn’t get my epidural!

So yeah, second stage can be lightning fast!!!

Good luck!!!

I was 1cm for weeks with my second. At least 2 as I had sweep after sweep. Could be a long road. Although if waters are gone they will induce soon so won't be too long.

How are doing OP ?

RainbowSlide · 06/10/2022 06:17

Hope bubs turns, recommend lots of child's pose yoga positrons, keeping your belly out and low. Good luck OP!

mrssunshinexxx · 06/10/2022 06:47

3 hours from 2-8cm
Don't let them send you home if you can't manage / feel safer at hosp
Tens machine was a good send for my back to back baby

How are doing OP ?

Took some codeine and changed position to bending over on the bouncing ball and lying on my side and it’s helped a lot. Contractions are now every 10 minutes so it would seem I am in the latent phase and baby has possibly moved? Lots of bloody show also! But because my waters went I’ll have to be induced at 3am tonight. Hoping I’ll go before then though.

My waters went at 10am, cervix high and closed at 11.30am, 1cm by 4pm, 7cm by 8.30pm and baby was born at 12.30am!

Good luck - hope all goes well and baby is with you very soon

mrssunshinexxx · 06/10/2022 10:20

@ChloeHel you don't 'have ' to do anything if you and baby are happy and healthy make sure you know and are happy with all options x

babyyodaxmas · 06/10/2022 10:45

After waters break, you and the baby run the risk of infection…

Not sure if you have progressed yet ( I hope you have ) but with my second I was stuck at 2cms all day (11 hours ). I was so discouraged especially as it was so painful . They admitted me as my blood pressure was high and it was a good thing because I went from 2cms to fully dilated in 2-3 hours and as I was admitted it was much less stressful .

ChloeHel · 07/10/2022 14:50

thank you for all the replies!! I was finally 4cm at 10am yesterday and got admitted, 4 hours later was 6cm then went from 6-10 within an hour haha! She arrived all safe and sound :)
