Ectopic or just too early?

Hi, by dates I should be around 5+5 however I have PCOS and have been on clomid treatment for ovulation so could be earlier than thought.

Went for scan yesterday, nothing was seen. Not even a sac. Had hcg levels done, came back at just under 2000 today. They stated they should have seen something yesterday.

No pain, no bleeding, no spotting. I have sore boobs and have had trapped wind, little nausea at times but not much.

I've had 3 miscarriages and one child (5yo).

I'm back tomorrow for a scan to rule out an ectopic. Just looking for any stories of people that have been through similar, could it be ectopic? Or maybe I'm just too early to have seen anything?

Will they do bloods tomorrow too? Biggest tell for an ectopic is HCG not rising as expected.
Fingers crossed for good news at tomorrow's scan.

@StillNotWarm she said she'd do a scan tomorrow but probably not check hcg levels again?

She said if the scan didn't show what they want to see, I'd be followed up by a consultant?

I would think they'll need to do more hcg levels to see as they can't just 'assume' it's ectopic if it's not seen on a scan? Or am I wrong?

I had an ectopic 2 years ago, my bloods were taking every 48 hours to measure HCG levels.

although my HCG was increasing it wasn’t increasing enough, they couldn’t see anything on the scan but said I may have been too early, turns out I wasn’t it was just growing in the wrong place.

i also have PCOS so it may be that you are too early…I went last week because I should have been around 7 weeks according to last period however, they couldn’t see that via internal scan.

If they do suspect an ectopic then they normally keep a close eye on you because it can be so dangerous. Hoping it doesn’t go that way for you 🙏

hopingthisistheone · 05/10/2022 15:35

@Klb18 how did they know it was growing in the wrong place? Was this confirmed by scan?

I'm worried that I may not be as far on as I think, however they've said with hcg levels they should be able to see something but surely they won't see something if you are only 4 weeks or so. It all differs so much.

I'm worried incase I go tomorrow, they don't see anything still, then suggest it's ectopic without properly confirming this somehow.

Because nothing was showing on my internal scan, I think I had 2 or 3 and nothing was seen so then they said it must be an ectopic because at that stage there should have been something showing in accordance to my HCG levels.

This was only confirmed when the Fallopian tube was removed.

They shouldn’t confirm it’s an ectopic by one blood sample, blood samples should be taken every 48 hours and if they are doubling then yes you possibly are just too early. if they are rising but not doubling then that’s when they say something sinister is happening.

Hope you are ok xx

hopingthisistheone · 05/10/2022 15:49

@Klb18 ahhh so they should be doubling? So if my levels was 2000 yesterday, it should be around 4000 tomorrow is that how it works?

I do hope they'll do bloods then to fully rule out everything. Not sure why she said they'd only do a scan. She did say on the phone, she hopes it was maybe just too early to see something and that days make a difference sometimes.

Thank you for your well wishes and I wish you all the best too. Please do keep in touch on here and let me know how you get on. xx

@hopingthisistheone There is nothing wrong with you challenging them and asking for more bloods.

yes, I believe HCG levels should double every 48 hours.

Thank you, you too hun x
