Under active thyroid with healthy baby?

Hi

iv recently been diagnosed with an under active thyroid, Iv been in 25mcg on thyroxine and my levels were fine. this was back in June, in September I found out I was pregnant, But I didn’t find out I was pregnant until 9 weeks, my midwife referred me for an endocrine appointment today (I am now 11 weeks 3 days) and when I spoke with the doctor he told me my tablets need to be upped to 75, as my TSH levels are 4.2 and this can be dangerous for the baby.

He said it can course low IQ and development issues, so obviously now I am worrying as I am nearly out of my first trimester and Iv only just had my tablets upped.

my question is, has anyone else had this issue and gone on to have a healthy baby?

Hi @Stantonmum, I don't have any advice at this stage but wanted to give you a little bump and see if maybe someone else does.
Wishing you all the best x

@Skippy90 thank you, I really appreciate that. :)

I'm hypothyroid due to having half my thyroid removed, during my first pregnancy I was on levothyroxine and the dose wasn't increased despite that being the recommendation - baby was perfectly healthy.

I had to have my dosage upped half way through my pregnancy with my son and he is a healthy average 4 year old now. I wasn't even on thyroxine when pregnant with my daughter but was most likely hypothyroid then (I have vague memories of it being diagnosed near the end of the pregnancy or soon after, not sure exactly as it was a while ago) and she is 11 now, healthy and pretty intelligent (at least, she gets mostly top grades in school)

Ah yes should've also said my DS (now almost 4) has had no developmental issues and is bright as a button so doesn't look like there was any issue in that regard with not having had my dose of levothyroxone increased during that pregnancy.

@LadyMcLadyface @Natsku thank you, that makes me feel better. The doctor did say 4.2 isn’t overly high and he’s not concerned. It was just the fact that he mentioned the development issues and low IQ that scared me, I guess maybe they have to say that.
