Scan at 6+2

Hi everyone

I’ve booked an early scan (transvaginal) at 6 weeks 2 days as I’m just extremely paranoid something is wrong. I’m overanalysing every twinge at the moment and concerned about ectopic, molar pregnancy etc. I also had a MMC earlier this year where the baby stopped growing between 5-6 weeks (picked up at an 8 week scan).

Just wondering what my chances are of seeing a heartbeat at 6 weeks 2 days? I’m wondering if I should change the scan to 7 weeks? I don’t know if it helps but my 8 week scan was external and they saw the sac, yolk & fetal pole despite only measuring 5-6 weeks so does this mean they’re more likely to see everything and if they don’t, something must be wrong? Not sure if that makes sense

I saw a HB at 6+2 but was told it I was very lucky. Surprised they are doing a TV scan - mine was an abdo one?

I had a scan today and I'm measuring 6wks and I saw the flicker of the heartbeat

I saw a heartbeat at 6+2. Transvaginal isnt as bad as it sounds. They only put the probe in about half an inch, you cant even really notice it. Hope it goes well!

Yes I chose this clinic specifically because they do transvaginal scans as I know I’m more likely to see everything that way. I’ve had one before with my last pregnancy and it wasn’t as bad as I thought

Transvaginal was what our private clinic recommended if you were less than 10 weeks to get clearer pictures.
If you're really anxious, it might be better to consider putting the scan back a week or 2. We waited until 6 weeks after the positive test so we could be sure the scan would give a definite answer - not being able to see the heartbeat bang on 6 weeks is really common, but I would be even more stressed waiting for a second scan.

I would delay it by a week or two if you possibly can - you want to make sure it's as likely as possible that you can see what you need to see! If you don't see the heartbeat that early on it doesn't necessarily mean there won't be one, but the worry might then be exacerbated by not seeing it there and then!
I'm currently 9+3 (ish) and my midwife strongly recommended against them until about 8-9 weeks if you're going to get one, for that reason.

Thanks for your replies, I’ve changed my scan to the week after instead, I’ll be 7+2

I'm sorry for your miscarriage. I was extremely paranoid about my next pregnancy and I think it is completely normal. Good to reassure yourself and I hope everything goes well.

I’ve actually started spotting sadly just a few hours after posting this. Rang the EPU and they’re going to get me in for a scan tomorrow thankfully.

Just thought I’d update this in case anyone searches and finds this thread - after spotting and pains yesterday I had a scan with the EPU today. The scan was abdominal and they saw a 6 week baby (I’m 6 weeks today) with a flickering heartbeat. They also saw an area of blood next to the sac which they believe to be implantation bleeding, so told me to expect spotting to continue in the upcoming days/weeks.
