I’m absolutely Terrified, I keep reading horror stories, I need to know some genuine experiences. I’m 4 weeks and hoping to get the medication next week

I found out a couple year back that I was pregnant, it was unexpected and we went for an abortion. We wanted it done ASAP, I also found out around 4 weeks, however they wouldn't give me one until they could see the pregnancy on a scan, and until I had had a few conversations with health care professionals etc. They basically want to make sure that its your choice and that no one is forcing you etc. I was eventually given an abortion around 6.5 weeks. The ladies were lovely, but I wouldn't expect to get any medication in the next week, at least that wasn't my experience. Hope you're okay xxx

Just to add, I got mine done in a hospital, due to my anxiety, but it honestly wasn't terrible, I wasn't in alot of pain or anything and I didn't bleed alot because it was early on xxx

I’m sorry to hear that you’re having to go through this. I was in a similar position a couple of months ago. Like yourself, I was really scared about what was going to happen. I found out when I was 5/6 weeks pregnant but I was on holiday at the time so had to wait until I got home. I opted for a medical abortion but there are different options.

I filled out the online BPAS form and a couple of days later had a telephone consultation with BPAS. I qualified for the medication to be sent to me at home. I received the medication the next day and by this point was just shy of being 8 weeks pregnant.

I took the oral medication and 24 hours later inserted the tablets vaginally. Within 25 minutes I experienced cramping. My recommendation would be to take pain relief before or at the same time as the Misoprostol, to give them chance to work before the cramping begins. The cramps made me feel light-headed, sweaty and nauseous. I started bleeding around 1 hours after inserting the tablets. The pains were quite intense initially, I took codeine, paracetamol and ibuprofen to help. 3 hours later I administered the next 2 tablets vaginally. The intense cramping lasted a good 4 hours then I managed to sleep on and off for a while. The cramping improved massively but did continue intermittently over the next 7-10 days so I took analgesia when I needed it. The bleeding became lighter over the coming days stopped completely around day 10.
Overall the whole process went well. I was prepared for the worst as I’d read lots of horror stories online. It wasn’t a pleasant experience, the cramping was not nice at all, but one month later I do not regret my decision and I’m feeling like myself again.

I wish you all the best in whatever you decide to do!

Hi I have had 1 abortion at 4 weeks and 3 miscarriages at 8wks. One of these were natural and the other was done medically (tablets at home) and one d&c. My first abortion I went to the hospital and they gave me some tablets which I went home and took, the pain was no more then a bad period. My D&C was done under anaesthetic and physical the pain was not bad, emotionally it was awful. Natural miscarriage was no worse then a bad period but again emotionally terrible. I then had a missed miscarriage and again took tablets at home the pain was like going into labour and was awful but lasted only half hour. All very different but nothing to be scared of you will get through it x
