Brown discharge several days very early pregnancy

Hello, girls.

We have been TTC after a miscarriage few months ago. On Saturday I started experiencing light bleeding, first it was very dark, then it started to be brown with kind of a jelly consistency.

I had my first positive test this Sunday and I checked my HCG levels and were at 17. My ovulation tests show I ovulated around 14 and my last period started 4th of September.

Did anyone experience sth similar for several days? Is miscarriage close once more? :(

Thank you.

No pain, and are your tests getting stronger?

Brown bleeding can be normal. I had brown spotting, but I'm only 7 weeks so dont yet know if all is okay. The description of jelly like could also be just mixed with the increased discharge with early pregnancy.

You should have another HCG test and then you can calculate the increase. It should be at least 60% over 48 hours. You can find plenty of calculators like this flo.health/tools/hcg-calculator

not to alarm you but I had brown spotting a few months ago and it ended up being a chemical. However, I’m now 11 weeks pregnant and also had brown spotting for one evening very early on in this pregnancy

Thank you. I will repeat the hcg tomorrow. As regards tests, the one from today looked pretty similar to the one yesterday.

Best of luck with your pregnancies.

The reason I asked @Adri21 is that slow rising HCG plus discharge that's a brown prune juice consistency and colour plus pain can be a sign of ectopic pregnancy.

Adri21 · 03/10/2022 20:46

@IWillBeWaxingAnOwl , at the moment there's no pain. I'll see tomorrow how it goes with the hcg and on Thursday I have a doctor's appointment. Thanks.

Around 6 to 7 weeks, I had pink spotting for several days, then a week later heavier brown spotting. All was fine and I gave birth to a healthy baby!

Definitely agree though that you should take it seriously and make sure nothing like an ectopic is going on, but I wouldn't lose hope. When I had the bleeding, I was sent for a scan and the sonographer told me it was very common x

This morning the test was negative, so I pretty know what's following. Thanks alll

I’m sorry to hear that OP. Best of luck for the future. If you do get any pain please call your EPU, and if it’s really extremely bad go to A&E as an ectopic can be extremely serious

Sorry OP ☹️ sending hugs xxx

I'm waiting for hcg results. If they dropped it should be chemical not ectopic, right? Thank you all

Yes unfortunately @Adri21 if they have dropped this would suggest very early miscarriage (known as a chemical). So sorry x

Adri21 · 04/10/2022 17:17

@IWillBeWaxingAnOwl thanks 🤗. Any ideas how long we should wait before TTC after a chemical?

The hcg decreased from 17 on Sunday to 12.8 today... but the pregnancy test I just took has a stronger second line. I must be going crazy... but could there still be any chance?...

@Adri21 wait until you've stopped bleeding otherwise there is an infection risk. After that it is up to you, can be harder to date if you coneive before next period (as after any miscarriage you may not ovulate at same timescale you would as after a period)

Marshmallowmountain · 04/10/2022 18:20

Sadly no, HCG blood test is much more accurate than urine test as they are based on hydration etc

Adri21 · 06/10/2022 15:17

Thank you all for replying and sorry to get back on this. The hcg was 17 on Sunday, 12.8 on Tuesday and now is 20.5 and I started having some symptoms... However, I've been bleeding heavily for few days, also with clots...

Can hcg go up and down like this after miscarriage?

Manu thanks
