Winter baby - swaddle

Hello

Which swaddle would you suggest for a January baby? Are the thin ones too thin? Or does the baby wear layers in bed? I have no clue haha! I have attached a picture of the one I was thinking of.

I’ve always used a cellular/crocheted blanket to swaddle. It then generally becomes their comfort blankie.

I used a large muslin with my first. The rule of thumb is that baby should have one prayer more than what you have on and check they are not overheating by feeling their back behind their shoulder blades. We switched to sleep sacks (as you have shown) when baby could wiggle out of swaddle. Check the tog on the sleep sack and consider how warm the sleep environment is, too.

There are sone handy guides online about what baby should wear under the swaddle bags according to room temperature. Except for summer most of them recommend short sleeve vest and sleepsuit with 1 tog bag if above 20 degrees and 2.5 tog if below. There are different types of swaddle so you might want to wait to see what your baby prefers before investing too much or buy second hand. Mine preferred Love to Dream over the Tommee Tippee ones. She has been able to kick her way out if any blanket from birth so I have found the swaddle bags super useful.

Get a Tommee Tippee Grobag swaddlebag or whatever they're called where it's a swaddle until open the poppers and then becomes a normal arms out sleeping bag.

Also get a Love To Dream swaddle sleeping bag, maybe your baby will prefer arms up.

Get each of these in 2.5tog for winter and look on the packaging to see what the baby should wear underneath. Or just look at their websites!!
