17 weeks and feeling fat

I know it sounds bad me saying it, I am very very happy to be pregnant and I was waiting for it to happen for a while, but I just can't help myself with this feeling! I just feel like I am getting fat, my bump is looking fat rather than pregnant (or I guess how I imagined it to look like when pregnant) - it is bigger everywhere and it feels so soft. Just wanted to vent really, and ask if this is how it is supposed to be at this stage and it will feel like a pregnancy bump later on, or if it is just me and I am indeed just gaining weight that is not baby.

Only you knows whether you have also gained weight, which is obviously perfectly normal. But this is the really annoying time where you wonder if you look pregnant or just a bit rounder!!! Soon you'll have a definite bump!

It might be a bit of both, baby/bump weight and your weight. Do you know how much you have gained?
With the nausea and exhaustion it is very easy to eat more than we think. A salty snack to silence that nausea or a sweet snack to gather some energy.

Don't worry too much about the weight, it comes and it will go away. I have had 3 children, and my body went back each time. This said I had a French Ob/Gyn who was draconian on the weight , and I hated to be told off by him, but with hindsight, I guess, he was right.

I'm the same OP, 17 weeks and feeling fat - most of my clothes are getting tight, but I don't have a legit bump yet. I was wondering if I was just putting on weight rather than bump until my midwife appt at 16 weeks where she showed me my bump (by feeling around my belly) - bigger than I thought, and explained how it pushes everything up the waist so you just expand everywhere, not only low down. Interestingly she also mentioned that as I have anterior placenta (told at 12 week scan), it adds that soft cushioning at the front of my belly so it does look softer and less hard/bump like. I can't wait for a proper bump though!!

@Cormoran I think I gained bit less than one kilogram, may be about 800 grams 🤷‍♀️ thank you very much for your supporting words 🙏

@SiberFox oh that's interesting, because I imagined the bump to be low, like under the belly button, while mine seems to have gotten bigger everywhere - under ribs, in the middle and lower. It is much smaller in the mornings, and once I eat it just gets biiig. Thank you for sharing what you midwife said, it is really helpful to know! I will ask at my next scan (we will have private sex scan soon) what my placenta is like.

I know exactly how you're feeling. My whole trunk of my body went big, but didn't feel like I had a bump. Then suddenly one day boom bump.

1 kg at 17 weeks is nothing! You are making a baby which is a marvel and you body is in full production mode, creating blood vessels, pumping hormones, addicting fluid to your bump.
Yes the body is changing, but for the good!!

@Mrslight Same for me with the daily change - ie small bump/belly in the morning and then an impressively round one by the evening when I have to change into flexible pants or it hurts😅Not getting bloated as much as in 1st trimester (think I looked 8m pregnant then) but still get some by the evening as digestion slows down during the day. Enjoy the sex scan! x
