I too had this last saturday. Dh hope footed it out to tesco for more tests and again a very faint line appeared after 5 mins. Like me you've probably tested really early! As long as you got the line within 10 minutes I'd say congratulations!!!!!

EEC · 25/01/2008 09:52

I think false positives are really rare so sounds like you're pregnant. Congrats. Do another one tomorrow (1st thing after you get up) if you want to be sure. I don't think 10 mins is leaving it too long.

HelenCS · 25/01/2008 09:53

so even tho its not as thick as the negative line it still means positive?
What now?? Doctors to confirm??

I saw my consultant on Monday (have had difficulty getting pg second time round). He said he wouldn't do a blood test as I'd had 3 positives. With ds my gp said the same as pg tests are so reliable these days. I think around here I see the midwife at 8 weeks and haven't booked that yet. Tbh I'm still in shock!

EEC · 25/01/2008 10:00

If there's any line visible at all it's +ve.
I think it depends on where abouts in the country you are but doctors don't normally confirm. They usually just believe you as home preg tests are very accurate. You need to phone doctors surgery and they will tell you what you need to do next. You might have to make a doctors appointment, but often it's straight to see the midwife, and even that isn't til about 10 weeks for the 'booking in appointment'.

HelenCS · 25/01/2008 10:01

When i was pg before (i had a miscarriage in nov) the nurse did a test to check.

I got a pack of 2 should i do the other one just to make sure i get a positive?

I think i might phone the doctors to get an appointment anyway!! lol. so excited

I had a very faint line - I assumed it was negative and left it on the back of the loo, went to wash my hands and came back to a shock!

Turned out I was only three weeks gone though!

PortAndLemon · 25/01/2008 10:04

What do the test instructions say about when you can read the test? Personally after 5-10 minutes I'd be a bit dubious. If I were you I'd be inclined to leave it a few more days and then test again.

EEC · 25/01/2008 10:05

No harm in testing again, but if you get no line this time it doesn't mean your not pregnant, just that the the hormone you are testing is not concentrated enough. Better to wait til tomorrow, but I know when I was in the same situation I did it again straight away! And again the next day too... It is exciting isn't it?

No harm in making a doctor's appointment.

Sunshinemummy · 25/01/2008 10:14

False negatives don't really happen so it sounds like you're early days pregnant. As you progress, if you test again, line should become thicker as there will be more HCG present.

Doctors at my surgery don't check as apparently the home tests are now as accurate as the ones they do.

HelenCS · 25/01/2008 10:18

thanks for all your help ladies, hoping this pregnancy will be successful.... xxx

When are you due Helen? We have a September '08 thread going.

HelenCS · 25/01/2008 10:27

i did one of those pregnancy calenders and it says im about 4 weeks, obv i dont no if thats right or not but it said im due 4th October.. but do babies usually come early??

OP posts:
Haylstones · 25/01/2008 10:31

I'm nearly 36 wks pg and started off with a faint line...

Haylstones · 25/01/2008 10:32

Think most babies (especially first) are late or about their due date. I spent my due date with dd in labour (born 25 mins after it though!)

HelenCS · 25/01/2008 10:37

omg im so excited!! cant stop grinning lol.

Have i got a higher chance of having a miscarriage this time as i have had one before??

Also iv had a bit of brown discharge the day before last and this morning. Is it anything to worry about?

OP posts:
Sunshinemummy · 25/01/2008 10:43

Brown discharge is normally implantation bleed. It's when it is red it is more worrying but still not a definite that things are wrong.

Most first babies are late. My first was a week late and he was induced.

Congrats!

HelenCS · 25/01/2008 10:49

i think im at the stage where im worrying that every little cramp or bit of discharge is something way more than what it is, i think im looking into things too much??

OP posts:
Sunshinemummy · 25/01/2008 10:52

Helen we're all like that. If you read our September threadyou would think we were total obsessives.

HelenCS · 25/01/2008 10:53

i think i will join your september thread!

Sunshinemummy · 25/01/2008 10:54

All welcome - come along.

Didylicious · 25/01/2008 13:43

You could try a clear blue digital test to be sure - apparently they are really sensitive!

Otherwise the "First response" test is excellent - I found out I was preg a week before my period was due! (9 days after ovulating!!!).

Didylicious · 25/01/2008 13:44

PS I had lots of brown discharge in the early weeks with this preg - I'm now 21 weeks and have had no bleeding at all in the last 6 weeks (hurrah!).

Baby is fine - just "one of those"pregnancy things.
