Hi everyone! I went for my 16 week appointment and my blood pressure was high but then the midwife took it again before I left and she was happy with it. I've got a monitor at home and I've checked it today and it's saying by the chart my blood pressure is elevated, has anyone else been in this situation? This is baby no3 and I've never had a problem with my blood pressure with my others

I don't think that's high but it depends what your BP usually is.

babymamaxox · 28/09/2022 18:57

at my booking it was 100/60 but I've redone it this afternoon and it was 103/73 which is much better do you think I should just monitor it for now? As I'm not seeing my midwife again till nov! X

Yeah I would just monitor it daily, maybe note the readings down along with what you were doing when you measured (were you calm, busy, running around, morning or evening etc)

Raised blood pressure in pregnancy is fairly normal but they'll want to monitor it in case it turns out to be pre eclampsia.

The top number isnt high at all, the bottom number at 84 is ever so slightly elevated but nothing to worry about. Blood pressure is affected by soooo many different things but I probably wouldn't take it regularly as it will stress you out.

Thanks everyone! Just got a bit worried and it was never been raised in my other pregnancies! I'm defo gonna test morning/late afternoon and write them down as I don't wanna leave it till I see my midwife in nov to have it checked again! X

I had high blood pressure in both my pregnancies. Both turned to pre eclampsia and caesarians.

Stress and worrying increases blood pressure. Just taking my blood pressure caused mine to increase.

Keep an eye on it. Take it twice a day, try and try and be relaxed when you take it. If it keeps going up you may need intervention. You will need to take action because it is serious and could kill you or the baby. But it is manageble, you are aware early so can prevent this. I now have two healthy children.

That reading is definitely not high by any means. If it’s anything over 140/90 then you should contact MAU or your midwife. Also it’s best to test first thing in the morning, that will give you a more true reading of your BP.

babymamaxox · 29/09/2022 09:02

I tested this morning 30 mins after breakfast and it was 115/66 so I'm much happier with that and will test again this evening!

I always have high blood pressure when I go for scans etc, they put me on aspirin because of preeclampsia risk, but when I do it at home it's always normal. I do it 2 or 3 times as find sometimes the first reading can be high if I'm worrying about it! Don't think yours seems that high though x

babymamaxox · 29/09/2022 15:49

Been to hospital today as getting belly pains found out have a uti but she did my bp and said it was completely normal. Trying to stop myself worrying so much about things.

That's not high, that's actually low for BP.
