Don't know if these are contractions or bh

If anyone can help me tell the difference... I think they're contractions. I woke up early hours with that burning low down period type pain that gradually came on, peaked, and went away, so I'm certain they was contractions. But by 6am they had stopped.
Now I'm having lighter versions of the same thing but all over the place timings wise. I'm so tired my brain feels scrambled and I know deep down these don't feel like the bh I've been having the last few weeks but I can't be sure

I think they're different for everyone. BH for me are where my bump goes tight and uncomfortable, kind of similar feeling to when baby has a good stretch. Early contractions are more like cramps, period or bad tummy sort of cramps with back ache/pelvic pain added in rather than just on the bump.
This is my 3rd pregnancy, I'm 38 weeks and been quite uncomfortable on a few occasions with early type Contractions but they've stopped. Similar thing happened with my 2nd birth, and then when it started properly it progressed nice and quickly x

@Loulou1712 thanks so much for replying. At a loss here as I'm just confused !!
The pains are accompanied by tightenings but they're short pains so not lasting very long if that makes sense ? This is what's confusing me
I'm losing more and more plug as the day goes on so I know somethings happening but feels like if these are contractions they're not going to be doing much cervix wise !!

Also these are starting every time I move around now but just don't last long

Try walking up the stairs sideways two steps at a time. That helped my early contractions along nicely if they are not real ones it won't do anything and if they are you will soon know.

My BH felt like the baby was pushing himself right out against my stomach and trying to escape. The early contractions I had felt different in that I could feel them starting the radiate into my crotch, and they were accompanied more by a cramp pain than just the discomfort of BH.

howcanitell · 28/09/2022 12:51

Just had a huge contraction, that was certainly not bh! Thanks I will try the stairs thing. I went for a walk this morning too to try and help things along.
Yea my bh always felt like baby pushing against my bump ! These just aren't the same

🤞🤞🤞 it progresses for you!
If your waters haven't gone, then sex and anything else that'll increase oxytocin should help! Cuddles, dance, whatever works for you :)
Hopefully be baby time soon x

Just waiting to be checked now at the hospital. Will be so pissed off if I'm not even dilating lol

What I remember. With BHs I could sit down and ignore them. Early labour I had to keep getting up and walking about, just couldnt relax.

Good luck.

How are you getting on @howcanitell? I’m in the same situation as you - braxton hicks are ramping up but I can’t quite tell if theyre contractions yet or not

God had a nightmare today, made to feel silly at Mau ! I was like that this morning couldn't tell if they were Braxton hicks or contractions but I knew deep down they wasn't bh! They ramped up in the afternoon and there is no mistaking them now. They are getting stronger now but less frequent 😫 going back and forth ! How're you feeling ? @Razzl

@Razzl wasn't dilating btw! Not even a cm. Don't get it to be honest how they can hurt so much and be so frequent and haven't done nothing to my cervix.
Losing loads more bloody show tonight though

Oh no, that’s so frustrating!! How many weeks are you?

I’ve felt really off today and also had diahorrea (TMI sorry) and some nausea. I was even sick a little bit and apparently this is apparently a labour sign. Braxton hicks are ramping back up again now but not sure if they’re contractions yet.

how are you feeling now?

howcanitell · 28/09/2022 21:12

I'm 38+2

That all sounds positive if not very nice for you ! Are you sure they're bh?? I knew mine wasn't when the back pain started and when I have a contraction I feel that vice like tightening in my lower back aswell as my bump

I'm okay thanks, tired ! And was very stressed earlier as felt like I wasn't being listened too but just got to trust my instincts and stand firm if I have too. I've had some strong cocodamol and got a hot water bottle, also had some chocolate !!

Everything has totally died down for me now, feel as normal as you can for 38 weeks pregnant. I’m feeling really crampy but it doesn’t feel like braxton hicks or contractions, more like trapped wind or something 😫 I was so sure baby was coming the last couple of days but now I think I’m in for the long haul.

Any more progression for you? I hope you’re close to cuddling your baby (if you’re not already)

Moooms · 29/09/2022 13:54

Hello!
I'm 38+3 today and this morning started getting cramps, but they have died down now, typical! My first was born at 42 weeks!

How are the other mummies doing? What are you doing to get it going?
