I attended EPU today due to cramping and some light pink watery bleeding.

They saw a sac but no yolk or anything in it.

They took my blood for HCG & Progesterone.
HCG: 1100
Progesterone: 62

She said my progesterone was really good but she's not very happy with my HCG result.

I'm booked in for a repeat test on Thursday.

They gave me a book with "Pregnancy of Unknown Location" on it which has terrified me into thinking I'm having an ectopic.

I did Google and lots of people say you can't see a yolk until 5.5-6 week.

Stressed 😩😩😩

I'm a nurse who works with early pregnancy.

Normally you wouldn't see much unless your HCG is 1500+ and also about 6 weeks plus is when we'd see a sac on scan. Wait until your 2nd BHCG on Thursday and take it from there. Ideally you'd like it to be doubling.

Obviously if you feel unwell - ie shoulder tip pain, severe abdominal pain or feeling very light headed attend your a&e department.

Sending you hugs and positivity xx

I had a scan at 5+1 and could also only see the gestational sac but no yolk sac. I went back a week later and saw a yolk sac and heartbeat. A lot can change in a week.

From what I understand, a single HCG test doesn’t tell the whole story. They can vary greatly. You really need a second one a couple of days later to see it rising adequately. I hope Thursday gives you this reassurance.

My hcg was 1177 at 4+5 so a similar stage to you and they told me that was good for that stage. But everyone’s hcg levels are completely different, anything from 19 can be normal for 5 weeks - www.whattoexpect.com/pregnancy/ask-heidi/hcg-levels.aspx - plus you might be out a couple days on dates depending on when you ovulated. Like @Betsyboo87 said, one test doesn’t tell you much - the repeat test will be able to tell you if you’re levels are doubling every 48ish hours and that’s much more telling than the what the actual level is. And positive that your progesterone is looking good.

I know stressful this is, I had cramping and bleeding at a similar stage of my pregnancy but it’s too early to worry just ye. The wait is tough but you’ll know more on Thursday. I hope everything works out for you.

How did your repeat test go @elm26?

elm26 · 02/10/2022 00:54

Thanks so much everyone! ♥️

It more than doubled, it was 4621 48 hours later so I'm really happy with that and trying to keep my anxiety down ready for my scan on Friday x

This thread gives me hope.

I thought I was around 5 weeks, however with PCOS and a cycle of 36 days.. maybe I'm only 4.

Went for a scan yesterday to rule out ectopic, nothing was seen, no sac. Had hcg levels done and came back at 2000. They said they should be able to see something at this stage but want to be sure, I'm back tomorrow for another scan to see if there's a sac.

If not, I think they'll repeat bloods and then see where we are at. Fingers crossed after 3 miscarriages, I am hoping this one sticks.

@elm26 that’s such lovely news, congratulations.

I went for an early pregnancy scan today because I’ve had some right side pain, no bleeding. They couldn’t locate anything and said they would expect to see something at this stage but it might be too early. I think I ovulated around 7th March. Last period started on Feb 14 but I have irregular cycles.

during the scan they couldn’t find anything but could find a group of ‘organised’ blood vessels which might indicate the start of an ectopic but it was at the edge of my uterus which isn’t the normal place for this.

they took my HCG levels which are 1,107. They said it’s a wait and see situation, will have another blood test on Saturday to see what happen.
