Hi all,

I 5 weeks today. Yesterday and today on 3 different occasions I had spotting which all look the same as this picture attached. I had a MMC in March so I am absolutely terrified, is this something really bad or can this also be normal.

Thanks so much in advance 🙏

This can be normal. It’s red heavy bleeds you need to have checked out.

It’s such a stressful time isn’t it, especially when you’ve already experienced loss. Take care of yourself.

@GreyTCat thank you for coming back to me. Yes I hope it's just normal or irritation from my stomach progesterone pessaries.

I called up my EPU and due to my MMC they have said I can come in for a scan so I am currently waiting for the scan to happen.

It's honestly such a scary time, we were about to have IVF and suddenly I got pregnant in that last month. I really hope this little miracle is a sticker ❤️🙏

It’s good that you’re on progesterone though. I bet the scan will reassure you, hope it goes well. Are you there by yourself?

GreyTCat · 29/09/2022 12:47

Have you had your scan @KS23?

KS23 · 29/09/2022 12:57

@GreyTCat so sorry have been meaning to reply. It's been a wild few days.

So went to EPU Tuesday and they scanned me straight away and said it' was a pregnancy of an unknown location. I was devastated as I know my dates are spot on as I had follicle scanning. They were prepping me for ectopic or another miscarriage. They took my bloods and called me back a few hours later and said it was 870 (I was 4 weeks and 6 days at this point) they said that was normal range for my gestation. (However people online seem to have wayyyy more at 5 weeks? They said as it was all normal, no need to repeat bloods and come in for a scan Monday (3rd) I said to the nurse, but aren't you worried that there was nothing on the scan? And she said I am looking at your scan and I see a sac ---- me = So confused???

Next morning at 730 I went for a private scan with someone who I completely trust, an expert sonographer and he put the ultrasound in and said there's your sac, it's what it should look like at 5 weeks and then showed me in 3D. Measured my lining and it was 12.8 - the hospital said it was 8?? (Post ovulation it was 13 and he's not concerned that it's gone down a tiny bit)

Anyway went home feeling better and then today I had the exact same pink discharge spotting again, went back to EPU and they checked my cervix and said it was tightly closed shut ( I really hope that's a good sign from my body) she said I had some erosion on my cervix which is nothing to worry about - maybe that caused my blood?

Anyway I have a 6 week scan with the NHS on Monday and then a private one on Thursday as a follow up where I'll be 6weeks and 2 days. I pray it's all good news. I'm still so scared. ❤️ thanks for checking in xxxx

Hi OP, just read your post and your update and wanted to say I'm so pleased things are progressing as they should and I will keep everything crossed for you! Can completely understand that you're still scared but so glad you got some reassurance. It's all such a rollercoaster x

I know you’ve updated and it’s looking positive so far, but just wanted to add in I had bleeding with my second and third pregnancies.

My second I started spotting at 6 weeks and then at 7 weeks roughly it got a bit heavier and was bright red. I was actually in Australia when this happened and was due to fly home to the UK that night so I paid for a scan to find out whether I was miscarrying so I could assess whether it would be safe to fly. Scan showed everything was fine and I had a hematoma next to the baby, but otherwise all good. Spotting continued on and off until 9 weeks and I had another scan which showed it was all good. Has another episode of bright red heavy spotting at 13 weeks, that time they checked my cervix and it was closed but I had cervical erosion, which apparantly is common and not harmful. I spotted on and off until 16 weeks. That baby is 2y 2m now.

baby 3 I had a light brown bleed on a Friday, figured my period was coming. Realised on the Monday I hadn’t had any bleeding since then and tested “just to check”. Very clear positive. Had no idea how far gone I was as I was breastfeeding my middle son (then 9 months) so got a scan at EPAC on the Thursday. Measuring roughly 6 weeks, could just make out a heartbeat. Went back at 8 weeks to check the progress and he was growing well. Again spotted on and off until 16 weeks or so. He’s now 9 months.

I hope that provides you with some reassurance! It doesn’t always mean it’s bad news. Best of luck 💖

That sounds positive overall @KS23, what a rollercoaster it is! Glad your husband was able to go with you. Good luck for Monday.

Sometimes a little blood can
Mean the baby is "burrowing" in! Let's hope so xx
