Hi all.

So I'm 39 weeks and last week I had contractions every 5 mins, went to hospital to find I'm 2cm. They sent me home and I've not had many since. They come and come. This morning I got up for a wee and I had my pad filled with fluid, the first was sticky so thought nothing of it. But for the last 2 hours it's been dripping out and it's clear. It's dripping over the floor but it's like dripping out rather than a gash. I have no pain and no contractions. I don't want to go to hospital because they will send me home if im having no pain or contractions as it's just happened?

Is this my waters?

Thank you xx

Yes I believe it is. I had a massive flood come out when waters broke with my son but with my daughter it was a trickle. It’s definitely worth checking out. Good luck and hope we get to hear about you meeting your beautiful baby soon!

Sounds like it. Mine only trickled.

How long after did you get contractions? Xx

Call the labour ward again and tell them your waters have gone. It's not safe for them to break and to wait many hours because there's a small risk of infection entering. I suspect they will start labour with a drip. Don't be fobbed off

TabithaTittlemouse · 27/09/2022 10:07

One of mine was a slow trickle. I agree with calling your midwife.

I'm going to ring soon I think, I've been up 3 times for contractions and they've sent me back every time. I don't feel like all my waters have broken as I haven't had a gush. Its just been slowly dripping x

Mine was like this. Contractions started within about 2 hours. Go in to get them to check it definitely is (it is but they need an official check) as you’re now on a 24 hour countdown from waters breaking before there’s an increased infection risk. Do you have a midwife line you can call for advice?

CrotchetyQuaver · 27/09/2022 10:10

Your waters have broken by the sound of it.
Contact your midwife and let them know this has happened, hopefully you'll go into labour naturally but there is a risk of infection if you don't and at they should induce you.

BuffaloCauliflower · 27/09/2022 10:11

I never had a gush, a gush is actually less common, a trickle is what most women get

BuffaloCauliflower · 27/09/2022 10:12

@inheritanceshiteagain there’s no need to start induction drips, she’s got a good while for labour to start naturally before that’s a need or a concern

Pumpkinpatchlookinggood · 27/09/2022 10:13

Get vaccuming op. I guarantee it will get things going.
Ime.

00deed1988 · 27/09/2022 10:13

I am a midwife. With the history you have given I would want you to come in for assessment. They do observations, listen to babies heartbeat, check if it's your waters (put a pad on) and if it isn't obvious they do a speculum to confirm. If it is your waters and everything is normal then they may send you home to come back in for induction if your contractions don't start on their own as there is a risk of infection if the waters are gone too long. Waters don't often have that big gush you expect. So many womens waters break with a trickle. Much more than you would expect!

OldTinHat · 27/09/2022 10:16

Mine trickled, no contractions, went to hospital and they told me to go back home. I insisted on being examined and I was 5cm.

Go back to hospital! And good luck! And congratulations, don't forget to keep us updated!!

AmberM2022 · 27/09/2022 10:18

This happened to my friend, her waters broke around 8am (slow trickles) and she waited until 5pm that night and still had no contractions (but her waters had broken) She needed to go in and start to be induced. Absolutely go down just so they can monitor :) Good luck!

inheritanceshiteagain · 27/09/2022 15:46

@BuffaloCauliflower She doesn't have days if labour doesn't start naturally. There is an infection risk not worth taking.

BuffaloCauliflower · 27/09/2022 15:58

@inheritanceshiteagain i didn’t say she had days. I said a drip doesn’t need to happen immediately

TimeforZeroes · 27/09/2022 16:01

Frustratedly pregnant and following vicariously through you.

mondaytosunday · 27/09/2022 16:08

My waters broke in a gush, but I didn't go in to labour. As I was going to have a section I went to the hospital and they kept me in to have the op in the morning as they were very busy. 10 hours later I still hadn't started labour.

Amijustagrump · 27/09/2022 16:28

My waters slowly trickled in tesco 2pm Friday, 2pm Saturday got admitted to hospital to start induction, 4pm Sunday had him- labour never started for me!

Vallmo47 · 27/09/2022 17:59

Vallmo47 · 27/09/2022 21:23

Awww your baby is nearly here!!! Hope everything runs smoothly for you. Try to get some sleep - I remember people saying this to me and me not listening 😂 but sleep is important. Good luck, you’ve got this!
