Gestational diabetes and breech baby - when did you give birth?

Again, I’m sorry for so many posts! But I was just wondering, I have GD and since the last 7-8 weeks, baby has been stubbornly breech. Although the midwife said there’s still time for baby to turn, I don’t think so as he’s been breech for so long and seems very comfortable that way. I’ve been having regular growth scan and baby’s been breech in all of them, and also, he’s measuring bigger than average (he was measuring above the 97th centile at 31 weeks - 4.2lb). I have no idea how much he weighs now as it’s been 2 and a half weeks since my last scan, but I’d guess around 5.5lb or so. I have an appointment at 36 weeks with my consultant who will tell me what will happen etc, but I was wondering when I’m likely to give birth in this situation? I’m controlling the GD well with my diet so far, but baby’s measuring big. Would I be allowed to go to my due date? And I’m pretty sure I’ll be having a c-section if baby stays breech? I’m not getting an ECV done.

I had GD and ended up taking insulin injections and on strict diet. My baby was breech but baby turned round of his own accord and was induced at 39 weeks. Healthy baby in the end and smaller than expected. Good luck.

My DD was breech and I had GD, I had an elective section booked for 39 weeks but my waters broke at 38+5 so she was born by emergency section at 38+6. Amazing experience and very well looked after. I’m currently 20weeks pregnant with our second and hoping for another section.

I had gd and a baby who was breech. I had a c section booked for 39 weeks which was perfect timing because she was coming that day with or without a c section!
My pregnancy was all okay, my baby was over the 97 percentile but when she was born she was a healthy size, it’s just because I’m naturally smaller. I had to watch my diet and get some medication but I didn’t feel any different really, just had extra scans.

So the norm seems to be around 39 weeks! Thanks guys 😊

Yep, 39 weeks is the preferred date for c-sections. My first was with a very similar background to you. My second, I discussed long and hard whether I could wait until 40 weeks and it was made v clear that if a c section was the best route, then 39 weeks was the best date.
