37+6 period pains/ lightening crotch

So as the title says i’m 37+6 and Thursday night i had what felt like just tightenings through the night on and off, not pain just uncomfy and at first felt like the baby’s bum hardening all the time - now i think it was BH happening.
But last night about 2am i started getting really bad ‘period’ type pains, round my belly, in my lower back and top of legs, lingered for about an hour and died off. Fast forward to 9/10am and they came back and have been happening all day long - alongside some BAD lightening crotch pains. The period pain is manageable but can be quite strong but then goes dull. My waters have not gone but i do feel a little out of sorts too, when i get some of the pains i suddenly go red hot and start sweating? then 15 mins later i’m really cold. My appetite has done downhill too. So, what i’m asking eventually is - Could this be the start of something?? Has anyone else’s labour started like this. I really am fed up and hoping any sign is ‘it’ haha!

I’m 38+3 and have been having this exact same thing happen on and off for 2 weeks!! It’s been awful and so uncomfortable! But no labor yet, I think it’s just our bodies preparing. It’s odd because I didn’t have anything like this with my first!

it sounds to me like labour. It starts with period like pains.

It could definitely be the start of something. I’ve been getting lightning crotch too but I think it’s just her head pushing down. My round ligament pain has been excruciating this time around too (37 weeks).

It could be, but it also might not be!

I got lightening crotch on and off at about 37 weeks but then didn’t give birth till 41 weeks. It could just be the baby moving it’s head further down.

The period pains I think are a more likely indicator, especially if they stay and start getting worse.

Is your baby's head engaged? If not it could be baby turning to head down.

That’s how I started with one of mine. Born the next day

Thanks everyone for getting back to me! It seems hard to know if it meant something or nothing at all haha! I have woken up today and it’s not half as bad at all, a dull ache that is on and off if anything! Still getting the lightening pains but they do seem to be worse when baby moves, so moving further down is possibly very much it! My baby’s head was 3/5ths engaged at my 34 wk apt, i have another one on Tuesday so hopefully she can tell me more then if baby’s head is further down! I think at this point any twinge you must start to think ‘ah is this it’ haha! But no baby yet so wants to stay put for now!
