Can you ask for a sweep?

Hello 👋 I am 37+5 weeks with my second little one. I have struggled the past week or so with feeling uncomfortable/ tiredness. I had a scare last week and went to hospital as a precaution to be monitored and had another growth scan the following day as I was being monitored due to blood flow from placenta to baby and high levels of fluid in the womb. Had to have a GTT a few weeks ago which come back fine and also on additional iron supplements as I was told I was close to anaemia. Being consultant led this time I was told after my growth scan last week that they were happy with the weight/ the blood flow to baby was normal again but the volume of fluid was higher than 2 weeks ago. I was advised not to have any further scans but at my next midwife appointment (next Tuesday) if my midwife felt there was an issue then to contact the hospital.

Part of me wonders if it is safe to ask for a sweep earlier than my due date?

You can ask. Worst they will say is no

Yes. I asked for one at my 38 week appointment. Midwife agreed but said she would only do it if conditions were favourable and head was fixed down. All was good and baby arrived 19 hours later.

You can definitely ask although they don't have to agree. In my last pregnancy they booked me in for a sweep at 38+4 for no apparent reason. Everything was fine with the baby and pregnancy, I noticed my appointment was somewhere different, checked my notes and seen they'd put me down for a stretch and sweep, they didn't even mention it to me! I actually planned to decline it as there was no medical reason but baby arrived 4 days before the appointment.

My trust won’t do sweeps until 40 weeks for first pregnancy and 41 for second. I know because I asked at my 39 week appt whilst crying in agony from my PGP which I’ve had since 25 weeks. Currently unable to walk.

id ask though

Unless signed off by the consultant our trusts midwives won't do a sweep before your due date :(
I'm 37+2 with my 3rd and so so uncomfortable, babies measuring big and I'm terrified of going over but they're still reluctant to induce x
