HYPEREMESIS WITH A BABY

So I’ve just found out I’m pregnant, my youngest is only 6m old and I’m currently breastfeeding. I already have 2 children and I have suffered with HG all the way through both pregnancies.

Any baby is a blessing, they will be welcomed and loved but I am absolutely terrified. Anxiety is creeping in already.
does anyone have any advice for this mama? 😭

I know I am likely to have HG again as I’ve had it with both of my other pregnancies, the thought of being severely ill and caring for my baby is terrifying, the thought of being admitted to hospital when I’m still breastfeeding my baby is worrying me too.

have any other mammas managed to BF through HG?

can I still be prescribed the anti sickness medication whilst I’m BF?

Hey can I please join with you! I don’t have any advice but I am in the exact same situation.

exclusively breastfeeding my 5.5month old. He’s my first child but my first pregnancy ended in missed miscarriage in March 2021. I’ve had HG with both pregnancies.

I’ve had no postpartum period and my baby breastfeeds every 1.5-3h even at night so I thought there’s no way I’d be getting my periods back yet…

earlier this week I was randomly sick same as how it started with my little boy. Thought I must just be ill or food poisoning but the next day I felt sick again so did a pregnancy test just for peace of mind… I did a cheapie and a FRER. Faint lines on both. This was Wednesday afternoon.

no sickness since Thursday afternoon (same happened with my little boy sick once just before positive test then fine till Hg kicked in about 5.5/6 weeks), did another cheapie this morning and can barely see anything. 😢

so after getting over initial shock, oh fuck etc I’m now thinking I might be having a chemical or another MC and I’m sad 😔

@justwantobeamum I never thought in a million years I’d fall pregnant.. but here I am. I’ve had no sickness YET but I am only 4weeks ish. I done a test because my dog won’t leave me alone which he was the same with my previous pregnancy. As silly as that sounds hahaa!

HG kicked in with mine at around 5 weeks with both of my children, I’m so anxious waiting for it to happen again, other half keeps telling me to be more positive but I literally can’t, this is the reality of suffering with such an awful illness twice before.

sending you lots of love, hopefully that’s not the case and just a faulty test or something, I’ve ordered some CB DIGITALS as it’s not real until I see the words, always convince myself the lines are in my head although they’re clear as day.

Yeah I’m the same I have no idea how far along because no dates but based on the first random vomit and faint lines I’d also guess about 4 weeks. I remember about 1-2 weeks with both previous pregnancies of feeling fine after testing positive then about 6 weeks the Hg starts.

are you taking any vitamins? I want to start pregnacare/folic acid at least as I’ve obviously not been taking any for conception which also scares me, but can we with breastfeeding??

Mamaoftwooo · 23/09/2022 14:07

Honestly the internet seems like a minefield regarding things with breastfeeding so I’ve got no idea.. I’m gonna wait til I speak to my dr and go from there x

3x4mg tablets a day of ondansetron has helped me through my HG pregnancy. I'm now 34 weeks and only need to take 1 in the morning. Wishing you all the best.

I just went and compared pregnacare original and pregnacare breastfeeding and they are basically identical except the BF one has calcium and pregnancy one doesn’t so therefore everything in the pregnancy one you can take while BFing so I’m going to start just in case!

I'd recommend contacting pregnancy sickness support. They are great for advice. And get on the medication early!! If it were me, I'd get a gp appointment ASAP and demand ondansetron (or whatever equivalent you had).

I couldn't cope with breastfeeding but my child was 18 months (ended in miscarriage) and then I started up again until about 21 months when pregnant again and I couldn't cope.

Is it a wanted pregnancy because it is also ok to say you don't think it's the right time?

justwantobeamum · 25/09/2022 14:29

Well my internet cheapie test there was a faint line on Wednesday and now I can’t see anything. I did a FRER Wednesday with a clear line, couldn’t find any in shops near me today but got the CB 6 days earlier and no line so I guess I’ve had a chemical and not pregnant after all 😢 not bleeding yet but I suspect won’t be long. Bit gutted now. Good luck op x

My previous pregnancy I was on 3 x ondansetron, cyclizine and prochlorperazine a day and I was still in hospital multiple times throughout my pregnancy, desperately hoping things are better this time! X

I’ve left them a message, waiting for a reply, they were amazing last time, unlike my GP! If I had a supportive GP I wouldn’t be so worried but they are useless 😭 withdrew my medication and everything last time had to go through a consultant at the hospital it was a nightmare! GP more or less told me it was all in my head.

i have a telephone consultation with my GP on the 3rd oct, not feeling very hopeful about it, also not sure if it’s breastfeeding safe.

i do want to continue to breastfeed but if I end up very I’ll again I think I may need to try and wean.

It wasn’t a planned pregnancy, but now I’m over the initial shock of it, I feel a lot better!
