I'm 20 weeks pregnant. I had a cough over a week ago that went around our house. Everyone else has shifted it but I'm either fine or coughing so hard it feels like my chest is ripping open and I throw up. When I'm coughing it feels like I need to get something out, sometimes there's phlegm but other times I'm just desperately coughing and can't stop and nothing comes up. I can go hours without coughing and then I have an hour or so of vicious coughing fits and vomiting and my stomach muscles kill from it! What is going on?!

Me and dd both had whooping cough (tested positive for it) and neither of us had the whooping sound.

Yes chest infection is another possibility. I had this recently, with the worst cough I've ever had, thought it was just a cough but turned out to be pneumonia with some sort of unusual crunched up bit of lung. I'd had it for 5 weeks before I found that out. It was gone within a week with antibiotics.

I'm asthmatic and a veteran of the nasty cough - the only time I've ever coughed until I vomited was when I was pregnant.

Given it's dragged on, I suspect you need an antibiotic and/or an inhaler. Don't take any risks with wheezing.
