I went to epu yesterday due to sharp stabbing pain on left side. I should have been exactly 5 weeks yesterday.

had a scan and had an empty uterus, thick lining on the womb but nothing else to be seen

they weren’t too concerned and did bloods to check HCG level, expecting them to be around 500 and that I was less pregnant then I thought.

HCG came back at 1800, so now they are more concerned as they should have been at least a sac at this point.

im having another scan today to see if there’s anything there now…

im going insane with unbearable anxiety!!! Had anyone experienced this 😥😥😥

Hi. I had something similar last year, my HCG was rising but scans every few days were showing nothing. Though I must add that I was only being scanned because I had started to vleed.

I'm afraid it wasn't good news for me and I was told I had experienced, at their best guess, an ectopic pregnancy that resolved itself.

However, I did go on to get pregnant again again less than a year later with no complications (so far).

Best of luck to you and I hope there's some good news for you.

Blughbablugh · 21/09/2022 11:10

I'm afraid I had similar as well and started bleeding. By the time I got to epu they couldn't find evidence of a pregnancy and it was only my hcg levels which indicated I had been pregnant. Like the previous poster I then went on to get pregnant the month after and now have a gorgeous 14 month old.
I hope everything works out for you xx

Sprinklerainbows · 21/09/2022 11:14

@Blughbablugh @Laurakiaora thank you both for replying. I have a bad feeling, but no bleeding which is actually worrying me more. The pain is mild but very persistent, gradually getting more and more I’d say which is obviously NOT good

Im so scared of having to have surgery as I have a 2 year old and would be devastated to be away from him.

i found some hope on the internet where it said sometimes you can’t see anything on a scan at this stage but, I feel like this is unlikely ☹️

Five weeks is still early to see anything. So that could mean anything. Although with the raised HCG its more likely you would see something by now if it is there. That definitely doesn't rule you out, though.

I know it's hard but you must give it time. Within the next few days/week you should have a better idea of what's happening.

Sprinklerainbows · 21/09/2022 11:25

@Laurakiaora I just have a terrible feeling, the pain radiates down my leg and it’s definitely more constant even compared to yesterday

I’ve got the scan again today and bloods tomorrow so I guess it will become clear very soon

I had something similar, docs said it had to be ectopic & I was taken to hospital to be given, I think, some kind of chemotherapy drug which would kill the pregnancy.

Whilst waiting to be hooked up another doc said she'd take another look, and I'm so glad she did as she found my son. He had tucked himself away in the far corner of my uterus. I have a heart shaped uterus and he was right down in the "point". He is now a healthy 11yo.

But, I should caveat this that I had no other pain at all.

AquaticSewingMachine · 21/09/2022 11:32

If you are experiencing increasing pain, I would speak to a doctor asap as that would point strongly to an ectopic, and a ruptured ectopic is a medical emergency.

Sprinklerainbows · 21/09/2022 11:40

@Nidan2Sandan im so glad to hear that. I pray that’s the case here but due to the pain I expect otherwise x

@AquaticSewingMachine it’s hard to say if it’s ‘worse’ but more frequent for sure
if I were to go to a&e i expect I’d be waiting longer than just to wait for my scan at 2. I could be wrong though

Do you have a number for EPU? Call it. Worsening pain in your circumstances where they didn't find a uterine pregnancy despite relatively high HCG really is something to call about.

Sprinklerainbows · 21/09/2022 16:05

Thank you everyone! Thankfully there IS a baby.
Back in 2 weeks to hopefully see a heartbeat

I also had the same and the same pain radiating down my leg. Unfortunately it was ectopic, I did start to bleed but it didn't resolve so I was given the option of surgery or injection (methotrexate) I opened for injections. Sorry you are so worried and in pain.

Sprinklerainbows · 23/09/2022 18:36

@b8tes7sw sorry for your loss! Thankfully the baby is in the correct place and all seems well
my pain was caused my a fluid filled cyst x
