Progesterone after 13 weeks

I’ve had three previous miscarriages at around 7-10 weeks and have now made it to 14+2 (excited but still a nervous wreck) I have been on progesterone pessaries since seeing a heartbeat and was due to stop taking them around 13 weeks. I was too scared to come off them so asked if I could stay on them and have been given two more months worth. But I’m now worrying if I’m taking too much? Has anyone else had any positive experiences or negative with carrying on with progesterone after 13 weeks. I woke up with a slight nose bleed this morning- not sure if this is normal- wasn’t heavy. Sorry for the essay any advice or experiences much appreciated- thanks x

Hi,

im so sorry to hear about your miscarriages. I also had 3 miscarriages and I took progesterone for my 4th pregnancy. I wasn't prepared to take the risk of stopping it, so I continued until about 23 weeks (halved my dose in the last couple of weeks, but I don't know if that's necessary or not). DS is now 13 months 🥰

thinking of you - pregnancy after loss is HARD

Shouldn't do you any harm but there's not much point tbh.

@1stimeMum2b I was on them from 6 to 36 weeks, 400mg twice a day.

I had had 3 miscarriages and a premature birth at 30 weeks for which I bled on and off all the way through. My most recent pregnancy, the EPU consultant initially had me on them until 16 weeks but said if I wanted to continue, he was happy to prescribe to 24 weeks. I'd not had any spotting or issues this time and didn't want to take a risk so continued. At 29 weeks I had threatened pre term labour so they put me back on them again until 36 weeks. It worked for me, I went to 39+5 and he's now 6 weeks old.

There's no harm in taking them, particularly if they will help your anxiety too.

I was initially prescribed until 16 weeks, then extended to 35 weeks.

My consultant said they don’t do any harm, but it’s not known if they make a difference later in the pregnancy

@Daffodil21 @CatHatSat @Beth262 @Batbatbatty thank you all so much! This has definitely reassured me :)) I will stay on as long as possible 🙏🙌💖
