Holiday while pregnant

Hello lovely lot
so I’m nearly 5 months pregnant and going on holiday to Spain in 3 weeks time. I know this might sound ridiculous but i know I’m going to have to avoid some of the lovely delicacies - cheeses, ham etc! But is there anything else? Is the milk/eggs safe? My partner wants to go to a tapas place and I’m not sure it’s worth it?! As I might be very limited!!

Just go off the NHS list. It's Spain! Anything you would eat at home, eat there.

I'm not sure what's wrong with Tapas?

On the gentlest way - women get pregnant in Spain...

I went to Spain when I was 10 weeks pregnant and was fine. I just avoided the food I would usually avoid in the UK. Have a fab holiday!

Yep just follow the advice re usual foods to avoid (so no chorizo, cured or uncooked meat, uncooked unpasteurised cheeses etc). I would also avoid uncooked eggs because you don't know their provenance (so no Spanish tortillas either). Also, a bit of a curve ball but I've heard that official advice in the continent is to avoid salad / uncooked veges because you can't guarantee how washed they will be.

BigSidLittleSid · 16/09/2022 14:59

You can have chorizo or cured meat if it's cooked through!

Currently on holidays now and having no problems at all eating over here. I’ve just avoided salads this time which is a shame as I love salad! But can’t be sure how clean it is and what it’s been washed in. Also opted for fruits that have to be peeled etc. I’ve asked for burgers/ steak to be cooked through and just avoided the usual things that are no no’s. Have a lovely holiday and relax xx

Pretty much all milk in Spain is uht so that should be fine.
Eggs, meat and cheese are fine if fully cooked. There are loads of things you can eat, if you're worried just make sure you stick to the hot tapas so you know it's cooked.
Yes to avoiding salads, but I do that in the UK too. I know not many people do. And I wouldn't drink the tap water, not because it's not safe but just different and can make your tummy feel funny sometimes.

@MsFizz do you mean tortellini? I had ham and cheese tortellini at home the other week 😱

@Danii4 tortellini is fine! Tortilla is Spanish omelette, and the proper ones are often a little soft/uncooked in the middle. Since you don't know if the eggs are from vaccinated hens then it might be worth avoiding.

@ancienthouse ahhh sorry my bad 🤣 but anything with cooked egg is fine? X

I think so long as it's thoroughly cooked (Spanish omelette may look cooked but often there's still some runny/soft bits)
