If you had a UTI in early pregnancy….

I’m nearly 8 weeks pregnant and I’ve been getting aches and pains and shivers for the last day or so but also have a sore throat that comes and goes. Also a slightly elevated temp of 38.1.

ive also been struggling to drink a lot due to nausea (though not been sick) just can’t stand a drink sitting on my stomach.

in my previous pregnancy I’ve had a UTI early pregnancy and seem to get them a lot - so I’m not at the moment concerned it’s that because it doesn’t hurt to wee, though urine is a little darker.

so if you’ve ever had a UTI whilst pregnant did you get shivers/high temp/aches and pains?

don’t really want to bother the NHS right now and thinking it’s just the start of a cold and taking paracetamol but I guess I’ve got a jiggling feeling it could be a UTI making me feel poorly - I do feel quite unwell.

I had this when pregnant - it was covid. I'd definitely contact the GP to rule out a UTI though.

I was 21 weeks so not early pregnancy but I did have those symptoms. Turned out my UTI has spread to my kidneys and I ended up in A+E the following day being treated for a kidney infection.

Yes it was awful! Hurt to pee, was peeing blood. The pain was worse than labour!

Just read through your OP, are you getting any 'normal' UTI symptoms as well though such as the urge to pee?

Temp is now 38.5, I am wrapped in a dressing gown and blanket though.

not really any urge to pee, if anything seems like I need to pee less considering I’m trying to drink more now. No stinging when I wee and the odd bit of back pain but not sure if it’s just from feeling quite achey.

if it was a UTI surely I would feel worse, as in urge to wee/pain when weeing?

did an LFT this morning was negative, will do again shortly but sore throat seems to have gone now

I'd see your GP. Its so easy for them to check for a UTI. You've obviously fighting off something. You may not want to bother the NHS but if you struggle through tomorrow and then feel worse at the weekend you're going to be looking at an out of hours appointment

I had a UTI at 5.5 weeks and didn't have issues with weeing, but had shivers and felt generally unwell. It was only picked up when my wee was tested in the lab, dipstick was clear. I was told a UTI in pregnancy can quickly get to the kidneys, so it's best to get on top of it.

Not necessarily. I'm almost 8 weeks and apparently have a uti but don't have any symptoms - I only know as I gave a urine sample at my booking in appointment last week.

Ignore my previous post then in that case, I also had the typical UTI symptoms. Hope you get sorted.

I ad 3 UTIs in my recent pregnancy, none of which I even knew about until I have a urine sample, no symptoms.

If you're not able to keep water/liquid down then your urine will be a bit darker so that's not necessarily a sign of UTI if no other symptoms.

Thank you all for your replies. It must’ve just been some sort of bug as fever subsided and I had a sore throat.

ive always usually had symptoms when I’ve had a UTI but partner was worried as I’ve not been drinking half as much as normal.
