Recurrent Bacterial Vaginosis in Pregnancy

Hi everyone,

I'm 19 weeks pregnant and am having problems with recurring bacterial vaginosis. I was diagnosed with BV at the start of my pregnancy, had a course of oral Metronidazole, tested positive again, and had another course of oral Metronidazole. Things got better for a while, but now it's back. At around week 17 I tested positive again, did another course of oral Metronidazole, felt like my symptoms were still there and tested positive again. This time, the dr at the sexual health clinic recommended a course of vaginal Clindamycin. I just finished taking it on Sunday, went for a review yesterday, and the BV is still there.

Because I've been so unresponsive to treatment and have had multiple course of antibiotics, the dr suggested I take a week of Balance Activ and see what happens. This makes me really uneasy - I don't like how many course of antibiotics I've had, but I'm also worried about not effectively treating my BV. What I'd really like is to be seen by an obstetrician rather than a sexual health dr, but this has not been easy to arrange.

I was wondering, has anyone else had a similar problem during pregnancy, and how did you treat it? Any advice would be appreciated!

Hi @Lndn I have just been diagnosed with BV at 9 weeks and prescribed metronidazole. I am very worried about taking it. Did you take it this early on in pregnancy? How did you get on with the balance activ? I would much prefer to use balance activ than take antibiotics.
