Currently 37+3 and am under consultant for a bmi of 45 due to see them when I'm 38+2 to discuss any issues I have. I'm thinking of having a section due to long previous labours plus blood transfusion but when mentioned to midwife today she wasn't too pleased and went to say that there massive risks with me being overweight and could be re admitted cause of possible infections etc and how would I care for my other children of this happened etc. I'm just wondering if anyone with a high bmi on here has had experience of a elective section and were there any complications during or after with recovery? Thanks

I had a very straight forward section. I had a pico dressing which is a dressing with a little machine attached to it that sucks out moisture. It’s a bit annoying but my scar was bone dry and completely healed 10 days later! No one ever mentioned my weight.

@KiraKiraHikaru did you ask for your section? Also were you classed high risk due to raised BMI? Midwife was very adamant that my weight doubled the risks of scar not healing and catching infection...

Many reasons for my section but I don’t think weight was one. I was a high risk due to my bmi and previous smoker so had to do clexane injections from 28 weeks and also 6 weeks after.

You need to look up @theheavyweightmidwife on Instagram she did an AMA on here the other week and was brilliant. Good luck with your delivery!
