'Tender' skin on tummy

Has anyone else had this? I'm 20 weeks and for about the last week a smallish area of my tummy on one side just feels really tender - you know like when you have flu? There are no marks or anything and I have no pain 'inside' so am at a loss as to what is causing it. I'm not feeling any kicks as such just some flutterings, but do you think that's causing the soreness?

Got my 20 week scan on tuesday, so will so if that shows anything.

Hi Merlin

Is this your first pregnancy? If not, did you get stretchmarks with a previous one? I got quite severe stretchmarks with both dds, each started off as a very tender feeling on the surface of the skin, until it finally stretched. Not a nice feeling!

Is the small area that feels sore on the left hand side, just underneath your ribs?
If it is, this is due to some nerves being stretched, it feels like sunburn, or friction burn and can end up numb as the bump gets bigger.

2nd pregnancy Miaiou and no luckily I had no stretch marks first time around so do you think that's what it is - my skin stretching?
Lowryn - the sore area is on my right side but towards the centre of my tummy and about half way down - I'm sure as you say it's something like nerves stretching - it gets worse as the day goes on.

I would guess it is the ligaments stretching - I get a similar feeling and it's stronger if I'm standing up and walking around a lot - I think it is the added weight pulling on ligaments softened by pregnancy hormones. I'm not worried about it. Mine feels like a very localised stitch.

It definately sounds like ligament pain, they tend to get overstretched as your preg advances as it is they that are holding your womb in place, wouldnt worry but to put your mind at rest mention it to your midwife or at your 20 week scan.

thanks for the words of wisdom everyone. Didn't have any of this first time round - maybe if everything is stretching more I'm going to be bigger this time - oh god!!!!!!!

i had weird pain (exactly like sunburn)directly under my breasts in the later stages of pregnancy both times and for about 4 weeks after the birth.
Always wondered what the hell was causing it.
