Suspected blood clot on lung

Hi all, looking for a handhold more than anything! I’m 27 weeks and have been admitted this evening with a suspected blood clot on my lung, having a CT to confirm
in the morning. Has anyone had this before? I haven’t asked what will be done/happen if there is one so what treatment do they use for this? Baby is well and moving they don’t seem
concerned there, but I’m also having high blood pressure/protein in the urine so they’re also looking out for pre eclampsia! What a long 12+ weeks this is going to be!

I was taken for this several times but it turned out to be nothing, they’re just super OTT about pregnant women and blood clots and things like shortness of breath is very common in pregnancy due to being squished in the rib cage but is also a symptom of a blood clot.

So it’s likely nothing. However if it is you’ll be on blood thinners (warfarin / heparin likely) for some time after and extra monitoring. But it’s likely nothing but a chest infection of some sort.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply! X-ray has already confirmed no infections, and I have reduced airway output on right back which is why they’re so sure it’s a clot, really hoping they’re wrong though and all is fine. I’m due to start clexane (blood thinners) this Saturday anyway but they have started me on them now because I’ve been admitted😩 I can cope with blood thinners, was scared it would mean an operation was needed!

Can I ask how you got on I am in the same position x

Charliebrow · 10/08/2023 18:20

I declined to have the scans so it didn’t get confirmed but I took the injection of blood thinners daily in case I did have clots. They didn’t make any difference. Felt a million dollars as soon as the baby was born xx

JonjoMonjo21 · 10/08/2023 18:22

I had 2 of these on my previous pregnancy, I was put on injections 4 times a day until 6 months after I’d delivered. Was hell on earth. I was absolutely black and blue.

Thanks ladies for getting back to me… can I ask what your symptoms were xx

Abbeyr28 · 08/10/2023 14:02

Hi, how did you get on with this?
And what were your symptoms?

Thanks

Houseonthehills · 08/10/2023 18:16

My PE was confirmed with a VQ scan. I had no pain but I was extremely breathless with extreme fatigue and heart palpitations. I felt like I had really bad covid and no energy. I’m currently 34 weeks and was diagnosed at 26 weeks. I’m on twice daily fragmin injections of 7500ml. Hope that helps xx

Abbeyr28 · 08/10/2023 23:18

Hey, thank you for replying.

Did you have an x-ray before VQ?
Xx

Houseonthehills · 09/10/2023 05:47

Yes I did, they don’t do the VQ scan unless the X-ray is clear. If they saw something on X-ray they would do a CT scan which is more in-depth but Carrie’s more radiation

Abbeyr28 · 09/10/2023 11:23

My hospital won't do a chest x-ray, they want me to have a VQ straight away.

I'm having breakdowns daily at the thought of the VQ scan.

The VQ scan sounds scary but they reduce the liquid they insert by 50% for pregnant women. It’s a kinder option to CTBA scan which cannot be adapted for pregnancy.

I was scared too as they tell you all the scary parts but I didn’t believe I had a blood clot. I was shocked to find I do and I as glad I had it as the affects of an undiagnosed PE is much scary then increased odds of a VQ scan. Every medical profession I met mentione show lucky I was to have had the PE diagnosed as they are deadly if not.
