Travel system worked really well for us, especially when we had to go for GP appointments or just out and about.

DBS94 · 28/09/2022 17:13

Been in the office today so just catching up on all the chat! Woohoo congrats on the scan @MilkAndFenty that's a fab pic and welcome ✨

I'm 12 weeks today based on 2 previous scans and feels like a mile stone! Biggest symptoms atm are boobs are so sore and itchy and feeling nauseous especially when brushing my teeth. Not sure what the issue is but minute I start brushing my teeth I start to wretch and eyes are streaming 🤣 hope everyone is good! X

Gilm0reGirl · 28/09/2022 17:13

@MilkAndFenty welcome! Congratulations and Lovely scan photo

Skylark1990 · 28/09/2022 17:34

@chasingtherainbow1 sorry to hear you have covid, am also really hoping you are feeling better now! How was your 12 week scan?

@Margo34 hope you're feeling better x

Skylark1990 · 28/09/2022 17:41

@ancienthouse DD will be 2 years 7 months so not sure we will need one as others have said! A buggy board could be a v good idea 💡 also planning to use the sling loads when newborn and then our ergobaby carrier once baby a bit bigger. So hopefully that will help! DD was quite a big baby and got too heavy for me to put her in the carrier for more than about 10 mins by the time she was 7 months tho

xalexandra · 28/09/2022 17:41

Oh I just found this thread 🥹 I'm due 21st April so 10 and a half weeks pregnant, had a scan at 8 and a half weeks and everything was fine which was such a relief as my last pregnancy ended in miscarriage and this is will be my first!! Hopefully! I have my 12 week scan when I'm exactly 12 weeks (which is next Friday), still sooooo nervous. I've just had covid (still testing positive 9 days later) and was bedbound for a week, and then the nausea came as well which was terrible, and now I've been prescribed anti-sickness tablets as I haven't been able to work for 2+ weeks! So it hasn't been an easy ride. But I guess I'm grateful to have the pregnancy symptoms? Surely that must be a good thing that it's going ok? 🙏🏼💕

Cuppasoupmonster · 28/09/2022 18:35

Lapin387 · 28/09/2022 12:01

@Cuppasoupmonster have you tried medication? I found cyclizine made me sleep 8 hours. The others also sedated me, so stopped me vomiting but didn’t help improve my intake. Might be just what you need if you take them before bed? Apologies if you’ve already gone down this road!

Anyone else’s vomiting ramped up suddenly at 12 weeks? I’m struggling with food but not hyperemesis as liquids stay down just fine.

I’ve just taken promezathine(?) for the first time so hoping that works. A sedative is quite welcome at this point to be honest. I haven’t slept for long than 2-3 hours in probably 4 weeks and I’m exhausted. And the more tired I get, the worse the sickness gets. It just seems to be a vicious cycle at this point. Now I’m 12 weeks I feel a bit better about trying some new drugs!

Gilm0reGirl · 28/09/2022 18:38

@xalexandra 👋 I also have my scan next Friday, I'll be 11+6 so one day behind you. But I think I'll be put back a bit.

xalexandra · 28/09/2022 18:49

@Gilm0reGirl I had mine booked for 12 and a half but going on holiday so asked if I could have one just before because I think waiting till 13+ weeks is too long for me! But they say they like the "12" week scan any time between 11 and a half and 13 and a half weeks! With the idea that 12 and a half is about the perfect time.

Hope your scan goes okay 💕🌸

ancienthouse · 28/09/2022 18:59

@Skylark1990 you could try a different carrier to see if that helps you carry longer. My DD was 99th centile and I carried her at 18 months still. A different carrier can make all the difference! I switched from a woven wrap to a Tula toddler.

DBS94 · 28/09/2022 19:16

I know this has been discussed previously but thought I would ask again as most of us have now had first midwife appointments. Has anyone been referred to a consultant for cervix checks? Ie previous colposcopy treatment. Mine is in 2 weeks and starting to feel quite nervous x

chasingtherainbow1 · 28/09/2022 19:28

@Skylark1990 the 12 week scan went great. I was 12w4d from lmp but measured 12w6d so I'm 13w1d today! Can't believe it's second trimester, just hope the little one is ok whilst I have covid. I feel terrible but slightly better than yesterday, just hoping it's on its way out by tomorrow!

Margo34 · 28/09/2022 19:32

@Tubbytele back carry mostly! My chatty backpack 😆 Unless DC is really tired then it's an inward facing front carry. DC1 tracks between 25-50 percentiles so not particularly heavy I suppose, and I'm just used to it. DC will be 2.5 when baby arrives so might be a totally different story by then!

I'm feeling a bit better, we made it out the house today for a little bit at least.

@Skylark1990

PuddingBear · 28/09/2022 19:43

@Tubbytele @Skylark1990 It’s the carrier - not you! You would be able to carry a heavier or older baby/toddler easily with the right carrier as you’d have the right support 😊

Once they get to a certain weight or age you need more of a toddler back carry; if you try to use a regular carrier you will think they’re too heavy/big/old.

EMcG3 · 28/09/2022 19:51

@ancienthouse - I will have a 3 year old when I have a new baby and am trying to work out the pram situation. Did your toddler stop wanting to be in the pram or were you specifically limiting it? We live in London, no car so our life is a pram life! I suppose I could just wait until closer to the time and see where we are at with toddler in the pram. We have a buggy board from when we had a nanny share but my daughter absolutely would not let the other, younger kid in HER pram.

ancienthouse · 28/09/2022 19:53

@DBS94 I've been referred for a cervical scan but for a different reason. I was fully dilated when I had an EMCS so there's an increased risk of cervical damage and premature labour or something. But mine isn't until 20 weeks. My midwife was very reassuring that there's lots of things they can do to help if the cervix isn't quite right.

ancienthouse · 28/09/2022 19:57

@EMcG3 we rarely drive and lived in London when we phased out the pram. I just tried to get her used to walking. And a balance bike helps for longer walks. She still whinges sometimes about tired legs so we just walk slower and distract - singing, playing games etc. and she soon speeds up! But if the pram isn't an option then she can't ask for it, I think she's now forgotten she ever had one.

Wisher88 · 28/09/2022 20:07

Evening everyone, 10 weeks and omg do I feel rough. I'd had only mild nausea and then last couple of days it's been awful. Was absolutely fine at the weekend, in fact was saying to people I'm virtually symptomless, and here I am feeling like death.
I keep having so much excessive saliva, throbbing head, nausea. Quite a few times sick has come up but I've been able to swallow it. I'm yet to fully vomit but I think that's because I'm eating only small amounts at a time and trying to resist being sick as much as possible.
I've got by eating just plain things but even those now are making me feel nauseous!

xalexandra · 28/09/2022 20:10

@Wisher88 I've literally been exactly the same! I went from worrying about lack of symptoms so absolutely having the worst nausea and even had to call 111 because I couldn't keep water down! It really hit me at 9 weeks and now I'm 10 and a half and it's still pretty bad - haven't been to work for 2 weeks because I pretty much love by the toilet 🤦🏼‍♀️ I am grateful for the symptoms as surely it must a good sign? But hoping it will ease soon because I really haven't been able to leave my house!

Wisher88 · 28/09/2022 20:23

@xalexandra mine seem to kick in about 4pm and then it just gets worse as the evening goes on and all through the night. Telling myself it means strong placenta and it'll be over in a couple of weeks.

Tropicana1 · 28/09/2022 21:27

@AliceinSlumberland we had a travel system and found it so useful 1- for transfer from car to pram, seamless and no wakes and 2- not having to take the bulky baby bassinet thinggy out with the pram instead.

Tubbytele · 28/09/2022 21:27

@Margo34 @PuddingBear thanks for this, I need to check these back carriers for toddlers out. I saw the tula recommended twice, is that a good one? What others would you recommend please? DS will also be 2.5 when baby comes but he has always been a heavy baby so I gave up on carriers a long time back.

@ancienthouse I didn't know about the cervical damage if fully dilated during an EMCS. Was this something you already knew or did your midwife inform you of this as no one has spoken to me about this possibly happening? Thanks for the info.

ancienthouse · 28/09/2022 21:31

@Tubbytele yes my midwife mentioned it then referred me to the clinic that screens for it. It's a relatively new thing based on recent research but I think it's now standard in the NHS.
She also said if I bleed or have leaking waters I should call them and go in to check my cervix.

Tubbytele · 28/09/2022 21:32

@ancienthouse thanks for this, I'll check with my midwife over the phone or at my consultant appt.

PuddingBear · 29/09/2022 03:04

@Tubbytele Your best bet is to have a look at your local sling library, then you’ll be able to test some out and see what works for you 😊

Also on Facebook I’d recommend joining the group Baby wearing UK as it’s a great resource for information and they have sling consultants too.
