Binge drinking in 2nd Trimester

Hello everyone,
I'm looking for some feedback from mothers who accidentally drank in pregnancy. I didn't know I was pregnant until 27 weeks.
I don't normally drink much and didn't have any alcohol until week 23 where I had just over 2 bottles of wine over one weekend (around 4 large glasses per night). I also drank on week 25 where I had 2 large glasses of wine.
I now feel awful when I researched the dangers of binge drinking in pregnancy.
I have spoken to my doctor who has reassured me FAS is linked to chronic alcoholics but I am worried my child may suffer some delays or hyperactivity/ emotional or behavioural issues due to the amount pf units I drank in a short space of time.
Has anybody had a similar drinking pattern of binging in mid-later pregnancy and have you noticed any delays or problems?

Hi @Helrose1

Not me but my sister didn’t realise she was pregnant until about 18 weeks. She drank quite a bit on a few evenings out around the time she found out. Obviously she stopped when she found out.

Her daughter is now 11 and probably the most chilled out, calm child I have ever met. She is very clever and her favourite hobby is reading. So no ill affects from the drinking.

Thanks for the message that is reassuring to know :-)

I think two binges don't pose the same risk of FAS as prolonged regular drinking over the course of the pregnancy.

Hi,
I'm going through the same thing, but not so far along and drinking a lot more. How is your baby?

I think your situation is different?

OP didn't know she was pregnant when she drank, you do, and are putting your baby at risk. Please get some help for both of you

OP, baby will be fine. I didn't realise I was pregnant when on honeymoon, and I have a strapping 16 year old now

You need to speak to your midwife or GP urgently and get help to stop drinking.

I am no longer drinking. I WAS drinking and have since stopped. What I was saying is that I drank a lot more earlier on than the OP. Not that I’m currently drinking or drank at all since finding out.
