Measuring small 8 weeks and slow heartbeat

Hi everyone,

We went for a private scan on Thursday (7+6) and baby was found to be measuring small (between 5 and 6 weeks) with a slightly slower than normal heartbeat.
I had a scan at 5+3 (had a lot of pain) and baby was measuring normally and there has been growth since then but only 2.5mm. I’m not sure the measurements could be wrong as it was done by a really experienced consultant.

I know the outcome is likely to be poor and we are preparing for the worst. My symptoms have all but stopped. I’ve got a scan with EPAU on Monday. If I’m definitely going to miscarry I just want this over and done with now and to start trying again. I know that may sound heartless, we are devastated but I am so desperate for a baby in my arms.

Has anyone been in similar situation? Please share experiences - good and bad.

Thank you
xx

Sorry @Lou1293. I was measuring 2 weeks behind at 8 weeks in previous pregnancy with a small sac and despite the good heartbeat, had a MMC at 10. LO stopped growing shortly after the scan. My symptoms were never strong but they pretty much went before I started spotting and then bleeding with medical management (pills). Miscarriage is tough and I completely get just wanting to get on with it - hence chose the pills. I fell pregnant again after a few months’ break and am 15 weeks, all okay so far. All the best of luck to you x

@Lou1293 very sorry to hear of this.

I had an early scan at 8+4. And measured 6+1 with a heartbeat which we got to see. They didn’t tell me it was slow. But I could see it was. I knew for my dates. It couldn’t possibly be right.

and I contacted EPU and was scanned 3 days later and in that time the heart had stopped. I ended up needed ERPC surgery in the end a month later still for retained product.

so for me it wasn’t a good outcome. And I knew deep down from my dates. It couldn’t possibly be viable even if it continued to grow for a while. As it should of been measuring 8-9 weeks.

3 months after ERPC surgery I found out I was pregnant again. And am now 7 weeks waiting again for an early scan. Very nervous. But hopeful.

wishing you lots of luck.

Thank you both for your messages.

Had a scan today and baby is now measuring 6.8mm and still has a heartbeat, albeit slow.
So plan is to rescan in another week. Feel in such a state of limbo, they have suggested that it is most likely to result in miscarriage but won’t do anything until there’s no heartbeat.

Expecting the worse but everything crossed for the best x

@Lou1293 Do you mind me asking how everything turned out for you? Going through something similar at the minute.

Hi, unfortunately it didn’t end well I’m afraid 😞 wish I had better news for you but I ended up having a MMC at 10 weeks. I hope it’s a better outcome for you x

@Lou1293 I’m so sorry to hear that. I went through something very similar last year so I’m not feeling hopeful at all this time. The waiting between scans is horrendous isn’t it?!
Really hope you’re doing ok.
