Horrendous trapped wind in chest/back

38 weeks pregnant and since last night I’ve got the worst trapped wind high up in my chest area and back. I’ve tried Rennies, gaviscon but it doesn’t really feel like indigestion or acid related, just trapped wind but my god it’s so painful I can hardly stand up straight and I barely slept last night. Walking about and some stretching positions seem to ease it but as soon as I rest it comes straight back. Just had some peppermint tea but couldn’t stomach it because it tastes vile. Struggling to pass any gas from either end (sorry!) so it’s just not shifting. Also feel a bit constipated. Any tips please? I’m miserable with it.

Call GP and get some omeprazole? Are you taking aspirin at all?

ReeseWitherfork · 09/09/2022 19:34

Oh and I found a really fast can of coke shifted whatever gas I had. Literally the opposite of the official advice!

Sounds like it could be gallstones?

talk to your GP

Moonshine160 · 09/09/2022 20:09

I’m already on ranitidine as I do generally suffer with indigestion. Yes I am on aspirin for previous preeclampsia… does that make a difference? @ReeseWitherfork

Lay on your left side

Have you had your blood pressure checked recently? I felt a bit like this when I had pre eclampsia

CaramelTwirl · 09/09/2022 20:19

It might be difficult with a pregnant belly but getting on all fours and putting your head down and bum up sometimes helps.

Riverlee · 09/09/2022 20:22

where are you based? I though ranitidine was unavailable.

Post op, when I had trapped wind and constipation, I found walking around, warm baths, jelly babies all helped.

Hugasauras · 09/09/2022 20:27

I was going to say gallstones too. Had this with a previous pregnancy and it felt like that.

Moonshine160 · 09/09/2022 20:32

Sorry, I meant lanzoperazole not ranitidine. I used to be on ranitidine and then all our local pharmacies discontinued it.

I’m actually having weekly blood pressure checks due to pre eclampsia in previous pregnancy. It was fine on Wednesday, 110/62, but I have a BP monitor at home and I’ve just checked it and it’s gone up to 140/90… I’m going to have to ring the hospital now :(

Hope you’re ok.

Fingers crossed all OK, don’t panic too much OP, I asked about aspirin as that can exasperate indigestion. It may be the aspirin causing it.

I agree, ranitidine has been taken off the market in the U.K. and the US and is not recommended in pregnancy.
