Low HCG?

KJHWW · 08/09/2022 12:27

Hi All

I am currently 3+6 (I think) according to LMP. I had bloods at 3+5 which gave HCG results at 77… this seems low to me? I know ‘normal’ range is wide (from around 10-750) but I can’t help feel anxious… I miscarried at 6 weeks in July and this feels all too familiar :(

Is anyone able to help with stories (good or bad) of HCG at similar levels, I’d just like to know what it realistic…

Thank you x

The HCG level doesn't mean anything unless it is compared to a second level from being tested 48 hours later. The rise is what matters.

KJHWW · 08/09/2022 14:25

Thank you for replying @Batbatbatty. I have my second bloods tomorrow (48hours gap) and the results early Saturday

Just to update for anyone who may be reading in case it helps.

I had bloods 48 hours following HCG of 77, which gave a result of 200 (4+0).

I then had a blood test 4days after that at 4+4 weeks (so level should have doubled and doubled again to around 800ish?) and am waiting on the results

I had mine done yesterday and was at 56, today was 61 and getting them done again tomorrow and Monday. Seems like a slow riser and I've been bleeding non stop for 4 days, quite heavy. Looking everywhere for a miracle!!

KJHWW · 15/09/2022 19:12

@Stressedmama85 so sorry to hear that - do you know how far along you are? Keeping everything crossed that you are around the 100 mark tomorrow and that the bleeding is implantation x

Stressedmama85 · 15/09/2022 20:16

Hi KJHWW, I am 10 days post Embryo transfer. This will be our 4th try but first positive, so really clinging on to any hope! They have said the bleeding is too heavy to be implantation and unless the numbers go right up overnight I'm not sure what to do!

KJHWW · 16/09/2022 07:49

@Stressedmama85 it’s impossible to do but try to remain calm and distracted. I hope you get the results soon xx

To update,

3+5 - HCG 77
4+0 - HCG 200
4+4 - HCG 1905

I’m unsure what to think as on 4+6, clear blue digital is still reading 2-3 weeks. The threshold for 3+ week is 2753. I ought to be way over that at 4+6 if numbers were rising as they should.

Feeling a bit worried. Could the blood test at 4+4 have been wrong?

x

What matters most is that your HCG is continuing to rise at a reasonable rate. Our bodies aren’t identical and yours might use less HCG.

I had my bloods done like you are after a previous miscarriage and had the opposite problem- my HCG was really high. It was stressful- got told to expect twins, then when no twins got told had increased risk of Down’s syndrome.

Then got an OB who told me that ranges are just indicators and unless you are very very high or very very low it’s not necessarily a sign things are wrong. You are close enough to the normal range - if your HCG was 700 at this point they’d probably be more concerned

KJHWW · 16/09/2022 08:17

Thank you @GlowingBear , I was content with the rise on HCG but am now worried it hasn’t risen like it should as the clear blue isn’t saying 3+, so it hasn’t met the threshold

So sorry to hear you went through that, it must have been worrying. I hope all is ok? x

It’s such a worrying time isn’t it. One of the best pieces of advice I got was to completely accept you’ll be anxious and it’s ok. It’s normal, but it is anxiety and not necessarily attached to reality. I read a thread on here at the time and one lady’s HCG never went above 3000 and the baby was fine. So you hopefully are just not in needs of loads of HCG.

Mine had a happy ending and he’s now a cheeky wee four year old. I remember how scared I was getting those blood results every time though- be kind to yourself 🙂

@KJHWW don't take much stock into the CB digital weeks someone on one of these forums shared an article about them being wholly unreliable and there is actually a very small percentage of them that show the 3+ at the HCG level it says it's meant to and it's actually much much higher before it shows 3+. There's also been cases of users using two tests same sample pot one showed 2-3 weeks one showed 3+

KJHWW · 16/09/2022 15:56

@mummatara thank you for your message. I think I know the thread you mean - it was really useful and set out that while the Clear Blue leaflet says the HCG threshold for 3+ weeks is 2700ish, it’s really unreliable until HCG 4000, then it becomes reliable.

I’m just worried because I’m HCG I should be over 4000. I think I’m going to try to step away from testing for a bit (we’ll see if I can avoid temptation!) and just try to enjoy this while it lasts

I’ll keep the thread updated in case it helps anyone x

I got 3+ on clear blue at 5+1 weeks. I thought about getting another HCG blood test given the delay on numbers but, for now, I’m going to try to step away from testing and see how things go until an early scan (fingers crossed we get there)

Thanks all for your messages and input x

@KJHWW Really hope all goes well for you. My numbers went from 56 to 79, not double but still a rise! No bleeding in 3 days so hopefully will work out! Wishing everyone here the all the best xxx

KJHWW · 19/09/2022 13:08

@Stressedmama85 so pleased there was a rise and no more bleeding. Are you still being monitored? Keeping everything crossed for you X

Yes, bloods every 48 hours from the maternity hospital and also from the fertility clinic.

KJHWW · 28/09/2022 16:01

@Stressedmama85 i hope everything is going well

I thought I would update for anyone reading now or in future… I was admitted to hospital (unrelated to pregnancy) at 6+0 and had a scan which was measuring a little small but there was a heartbeat and I was told the scan showed a viable pregnancy.

My HCG then dropped from 33,000 at 6+0 to 28,000 at 6+1. I am told that the Dr does not know which way this will go and I have a scan again in a few days at 7+0 to see whether there has been any development.

Hi @KJHWW

I'm so sorry to hear you have been in the hospital, such a scary time. I'm in a similar position. My levels went from 56 to 180 to 400 in a few days so all was looking good. Have not had a check in the last week and going for a scan tomorrow. Extremely nervous about it, just want to see if everything is ok. I will be exactly 6 weeks tomorrow. That was my one and only embryo so everything rides on this little one!

KJHWW · 28/09/2022 16:26

@Stressedmama85 It’s great news that your levels are rising! I will keep everything crossed for your scan tomorrow. Please do keep me updated x

OP posts:
Stressedmama85 · 28/09/2022 16:48

@KJHWW I will indeed, please keep me updated on how you get on too. Keeping everything crossed for you xx

Stressedmama85 · 29/09/2022 13:33

@KJHWW unfortunately my scan showed an empty sac so it's the end of the road now. I really do hope it all works out for you xx

KJHWW · 29/09/2022 14:28

@Stressedmama85 oh I’m so very sorry. Sending you lots of love. I had a MC in July and it’s just horrible. Try to take some time to look after yourself xx

Hiya @KJHWW , I'm crossing my fingers for you and scared to ask...but as I'm going through similar, do you have an update? I had my HCG on Thursday at 80 think I'm approx 3 weeks but seem to have gotten pregnant straight after a missed miscarriage so no period to date it. No bleeding but having cramps. EPU said the HCG was low for 3weeks. I hope you had good news and thanks for making the thread.

KJHWW · 22/10/2022 13:06

Hi there @justsayso mine was lower than yours at 3 weeks (77 at 3+5) and am currently 10+1. I’ve had a few health issues that are completely unrelated (blood) which have worried me so I’ve had a few scans up til now just for reassurance. Thankfully each has shown a heartbeat and growth being measured on track. Most recent scan at 9+2 showed baby moving limbs and wriggling away.

I say this to hopefully reassure you. Are you being monitored? Please do keep updated! xx
