Fetal weight at 31 weeks?

Hey guys, what was your baby’s weight at 31 weeks? I just had an NHS growth scan (I have gestational diabetes) and baby is measuring on the 95th centile, weighing 1874g (4.18lb) already. I’m just 31 weeks today and I’m scared to think what baby’s weight will be at 38ish weeks!

I had different health issues so mine was very small.

had friends with GD and they had a c-section at 37 weeks, have they discussed with you about early induction or CS? You should also have more frequent scans now.

are you able to control your diabetes? If it’s at all possible, I know it depends from woman to woman. My SIL managed to do it and the baby while at the top of the percentile, didn’t exceeded it so she needed no intervention and he was born naturally.

as long as the baby is within the limits like now and you have the extra scans, I’d just keep an eye on the GD and wouldn’t worry too much.

@CristinaNov182 thank you so much, hope your baby is well! I’m having regular growth scans, next one is at 36 weeks (after 5 weeks) though, but all looks good so far and yes I’ve been managing the GD well too. It’s been difficult but the dietician and diabetic midwife both said I’ve been measuring it really well.

They haven’t discussed induction or c-section yet, they said the consultant will discuss that at my 36 week appointment.

How many weeks was your SIL when she gave birth?

She didn’t tell anyone her due date :) probably so no one would stress about her. I’d say she was very close to term, 39 or so. It didn’t cross my mind to ask her after the birth either.

if the midwife and Dr are happy don’t worry.

I think you can also measure your tummy with a measuring tape, vertically, I remember my midwife doing that during my first pregnancy? And giving me a chart with these measurements. If you have this chart for yourself and can see a jump out of your usual line, you could call them to arrange for a scan sooner.

Btw I know this measurement isn’t very reliable, but it’s something you could do while waiting for the next scan, just in case.

for me it was clear though, I was doing very well until 24 weeks, then growth slowed down, I could also see it clearly on this graph, falling off, not keeping up with the same growth rate as before. Midwife sent me to more scans bc of it too.

Pregnant with DS1 and having growth scans, 30 weeks he was estimated at 4lb, 34 weeks, 6lb7oz!
DD1 was 7lb15oz 41 weeks
DD2 was 7lb at 40+6
So I'm surprised I'm growing an elephant this time 😂

I have GD and weirdly my baby at 30 weeks was only weighing 2.8lb! I had that scan and then was diagnosed GD. I’m 30+5 today and have another growth scan in around a week and a half I think, hoping he’s put on a bit of weight as he’s only just on the 10th centile. Can’t stop worrying!

Mine was born at 2nd percentile but otherwise healthy. I needed to be induced bc she stopped growing. But she did well after that. She’s been at 25nd percentile since, I’m short as well.

as long as the baby is healthy don’t worry.
