What does ectopic pain feel like?

I’ve had a dull ache in the left hand side of my lower pelvis which started Monday. It disappeared Monday night but then came back yesterday evening and I still have it now.

Just wondering if this is the type of one sided pain that’s worth calling the EPU about.

I’m 7w2d today.

How many weeks are you? Mine started as a dull ache type pain with brown bleed and slowly over time progressed to sharp pain which i also felt in my shoulder tip too before ectopic was confirmed

This doesn't mean to say yours is definitely ectopic pain. Could be a cyst it could be normal aches and pains of your pregnancy implanting. I would at the very least if just to put your mind at rest call the GP and ask for their advice.

Hope you are ok x

Sorry just saw you are 7 weeks my bad it's early Blush

I had one sided pain in first pregnancy that turned out to be trapped wind! They will likely scan you to double check. I’d give EPU a call, describe it to them and see what they say. Best to take their advice

Charl881 · 07/09/2022 07:13

@Pheepa I do feel like it could be that to be honest 🙈 I will give them a call just to be safe.

I had implantation pain with my first two and then an ectopic. The ectopic pain shot down my leg and I couldn’t walk without pain and, as PP said, it reflected and caused shoulder pain. The implantation pain was localised to my tummy. If in doubt call the EPU.

Charl881 · 07/09/2022 11:17

Thanks all, spoke to the EPU and they’re not too concerned but have booked me in for an early scan on Friday so that will hopefully be reassuring if the pain continues. Obviously they’ve also told me signs to look out for and what to do if pain gets worse.

I didn't have any constant pain or aches. Just a couple of really sudden pains and then massive bleeds.

It all started for me with period type cramping lower stomach which then moved to right and pain went down my right leg I couldnt even walk.
Pain lasted for 8 hours then stopped.
I had a small bleed then nothing.
All pains and spotting vanished for 7 days.
A week later pain returned then they discovered shadow on my tube and I was on operating table within hours.

Charl881 · 12/09/2022 20:25

Sorry I should have updated this to say I had a scan and all was fine! I’m still getting the pain in my left pelvis intermittently, especially when I exert myself, but they couldn’t find a reason for it and definitely not ectopic.

I’m so sorry you went through that @Lillybobs86

So glad it’s not ectopic, OP. Good luck w your pregnancy.

I am having a mild ache in my lower right abdomen that is sometimes in my groin, sometimes inner thigh, sometimes hip. I am 5 weeks and have had this same ongoing ache for 8 days now. Is this similar to what you felt? I cannot stop worrying but it's just too soon and not severe enough to be seen by anyone.

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 16/10/2022 18:05

@Littlebear14 aches all over pelvis and abdomen are totally normal in early pregnancy. If it gets severe or you get brown spotting or you get shoulder pain then call EPU but for now it's probably normal. Your pains sound like they are related more to muscle relaxation in early pregnancy

My ectopic pain was all around my hip on the side it was found to be, and would radiate down my thigh towards my knee. It was enough that I'd spend a lot time in bed in a lot of pain. In my successful pregnancy I had some pains on my side but nothing like the ectopic.

Thank you 😊 it has definitely not been severe and no bleeding so I will hope for the best for now!

I'm sorry to hear you had an ectopic. Thanks so much for sharing that info x

Massive pain like period pain or miscarrying and the dreaded shoulder tip pain. Within an hour I couldn’t be touched anywhere south if my belly. That however was the rupture. I never felt anything in the days before that.

Lillybobs86 · 16/10/2022 19:53

I would say monitor the pain and keep on at your doctor / EPU if worried to get you scanned.
As I said before above I had a lot of pain and a small bleed then all just vanished for about 7 days and I carried on with my normal life with no pain.
So I don't think one story fits all I read about a lot of ectopic stories and not all got same pains etc so please seek medical attention if continues.
I never had the shoulder tip pain that they swear is the main symptom but I never had that.
I remember the pain and cramps were on that side going my leg the first time I noticed cramps.

Hi
so I’m currently pregnant and being treated as PUL. I went for a scan Thursday and nothing could be seen. Was unsure on how many weeks I was due to irregular periods. My HCG came back as 2700. (This has worried me as bloods taken the same day as the scan and thought they say you can normally see atleast gestational sac by 1500 HCG?)
had repeat bloods 48 hours later and it has more than doubled which is good news but waiting to be booked for another scan.
today I have felt like I’ve had a dead left arm and the odd shooting pain down my arm. Also pins and needles in left ankle/foot on and off. I’m really worrying it’s ectopic and just looking for any advice please :(
Just to add I haven’t had any spotting or bleeding which also trusting this is a good sign fingers crossed

Bexiexx · 10/09/2023 19:22

Hi everyone! I'm currently 9 weeks and 2 days pregnant. I started off this morning with a few sharpish pains in my lower right pelvic area, which then disappeared. I now have a kind of dull ache in the same area, it's not stopping me from doing anything. Just looking for some advice. No bleeding either!
Thank you!!! X
