Hi everyone, I had an early scan today at exactly 9 weeks and was told I've got a hematoma that is measuring 30mmx15mmx11mm, they didn't say if this was big or small or much really, just told me to follow up with my midwife which I will do but I just wanted to hear other peoples experiences with them. TIA

Hey @Georgia2609! Firstly I hope you are ok. I had a diagnosed Hematoma at 13 weeks which was 6cm! I bled on and off until 18 weeks and at my 20 week scan it was fully resolved. I drunk lots of water and orange juice, avoided sex and relaxed where possible with a 1 year old!

My boy is now 4 months old 💙

You can get through this! x

They often disappear. Mine didn’t. I lifted something heavy (a wheel barrow at work), it popped and I bled and miscarried. However my heamatoma was very very close to the baby, which I knew was problematic.

most haematomas resolve and disappear. I was unlucky though

Hi I have been for a scan today and I have a bleed Haematoma 5cm !! I have been bleeding for 2 half weeks heavy , had my 13 week scan today baby is fine but bleed has gotten slightly bigger , but I have actually stopped bleeding but just really worried can anyone help ?

Georgia2609 · 31/10/2022 21:36

@unlikelyordinand unfortunately I can't be of much help, I had quite a big hematoma but I was lucky that I didn't bleed and my body completely re absorbed it, you may be better off making your own post because I posted this a while ago so you probably won't get any answers and I'm sure the reassurance coming from someone who's been in your shoes would be a lot more helpful, I wish you and your baby the absolute best and hope you have a happy and healthy pregnancy, I'm here if you need someone to talk to any time ❤️

started Bleeding at 9 weeks and was told I had a Haematoma which was measured at 2cm I have still been bleeding
now 13 weeks was told at my 13 week scan that the bleed was measured at 5cm and has got bigger so really Worries !! baby is fine booked in again for another scan in 4 weeks but still bleeding slightly only small bits and the colour of bleeding has now gone to dark brown blood ! Really worried of anyone can help this would put my mind at rest 😞

Georgia2609 · 01/11/2022 11:40

@unlikelyordinand brown blood is a lot better than red blood so that's a good sign, brown blood is old bloof where as red blood is fresh blood so it's more concerning when you're bleeding red blood, hopefully the bleeding will stop soon

The best advice is to limit any activity, whether walking, housework and absolutely no lifting etc and I am surprised you haven't been advised to do this already. Do as little as you possibly can. You are trying to not dislodge the haematoma which will probably cause it to bleed which of course is incredibly worrying. I was put on complete bed rest with mine until they could reassess at my 20 week scan.

Thank you !! when you went for your 20 week scan was it gone the hematoma? Also I have another scan in 4 weeks making me 16weeks but I feel like I can’t wait that long I’mjust so so worried 😞

I had a large hematoma as well and stated bleeding around 3/4 weeks. I think it was about 16 weeks that we got the all clear but we had a lot of difficulties with scans due to my pelvis being tilted so I don't know if it healed earlier than that. I'm now 35 weeks and all seems fine. Just keep in contact with your midwife and take it very easy is my advice. I basically put myself on modified bed rest (don't do full bed rest as you'll increase your risk of developing a blood clot) but reduced standing/ walking/ housework etc. Don't know if it made a jot of difference but it felt like I was doing something so it probably benefited my head more than anything else.
