Coursework extension - first trimester before scan

Hello very random question but hoping someone has had something similar… I have a coursework unit to complete through work (financial services) and I’m finding it impossible to concentrate on it/anything as in first trimester of pregnancy. 🤢

I can apply for an extension but need ’certified evidence’- assume this could be a doctor’s note.. has anyone been able to get something from their dr before for anything similar?! Or would it be their midwife? I’ve not yet had my first NHS scan (have had private though)- would the dr class me as pregnant before having the official NHS scan?

Thanks so much 🙏🏽❤️

Hello- not been in your situation myself, but I do work at a uni and we used to have a policy of asking for this kind of evidence to grant extensions. Where I work the evidence demands have actually been removed since the pandemic as it was difficult for people to get doctor's notes, but in the past I've seen doctors notes for first trimester pregnancies. Under our old policy they would need to state how the student's pregnancy was impacted their ability to study (nausea/ impact on mental health etc) as it was considered that pregnancy itself wasn't an Extenuating Circumstance. But what will be accepted varies depending on the education provided and what will be provided varies depending on the GP.

All you can really do is ask the GP and see what they say. I understand a lot charge a fee to provide doctors notes these days.

Some students used to provide notes from a service called click doctors or something, which I assume is a private online system- might be worth checking them out if the GP is going to charge anyway, although also check that anything they provide will be acceptable

Sorry for the typos- hope it still makes sense!

Also- I would think you could get the GP to do a blood test to confirm pregnancy and your course provider might accept the results print out as evidence? Depends how strict their policy is again. Good luck!
