Hi

I came into hospital Wednesday to be induced, had the 4 pessaries over 2 days and been having on and off contractions today, the next step is to break my waters. I was told about 7 hours ago they would do this but an emergency came in. Just wondering what others experiences are with this? How long did you wait for them to break your waters? Did you wait days?

Also - if your water were broken , how long from this did it take for your baby to be born?

I know it’s different everywhere and for everyone but I am really bored waiting and just wanting to hear others experiences. Thanks xx

For me I went in to be induced at 3pm on a Thursday. They were apparently very busy with a lot of emergencies so when I hadn't been seen at all by 11pm I asked someone what was going on. At about 11.30pm someone finally came and checked me, turned out I didn't need any pessaries etc as I was already 3-4cm so they said they'd break my waters. This didn't happen until around 7am the next morning.

From waters breaking to baby born was 4 hours, so very quick for me.

Good luck OP!

Oh wow thank you, I hope my experience is that quick from water breaking, was it your first baby? X

I went in Saturday about 10am , had pessary that afternoon and again the sunday morning ,about 5pm Sunday midwife managed to break my waters (she was just able to after lots of trying) and baby was born 10.5 hours after that early hours of Monday morning , I have had 2 other inductions but that birth was the longest and most similar to your experience so far , good luck !

SunshineClouds1 · 02/09/2022 19:18

Broke waters at 22:00, dc born 13:30 the next day.

annlee3817 · 02/09/2022 19:27

I went to be induced on Tuesday 23rd, pessary went in that night, contracted Wednesday and got to 2cm, contractions died off, was waiting for a spot on labour ward to have my waters broken, waited until Sunday 28th and was only taken down due to babies heart rate dropping. So for me it was days, but once broken they put me on the drip and progress was slow initially, 3 and a half hours and only 3cm, but then went from 3-10cm in five mins and she arrived 90 mins later

Mommabear20 · 02/09/2022 19:47

Went in at 9am, had gel at 11am, another dose of gel at 5pm, waters broke naturally at 9pm ad DD was born at 1am the next morning

MCMP13 · 02/09/2022 22:23

Thanks everyone , I’ve been told I’m next on the list but when ‘next’ is could be hours or days depending on emergencies 😭😭 xx

Oh I feel for you @MCMP13 . It's rotten. Hopefully there won't be any more delays now.

2 inductions.

First was started Wednesday morning. Had waters broken very) early Thursday morning. Baby born Thursday afternoon via vaginal delivery ~14 hours later.

Second was supposed to start Monday morning, but started at lunchtime instead. I then bounced up and down the list for a few days. Waters broken Friday mid morning. Baby born early Saturday morning via C-section (failure to progress) ~16 hours later.

Madwife123 · 03/09/2022 01:21

It’s so frustrating when you’re just waiting. I’m a midwife and we hate it as much as you do when we can’t start the inductions due to lack of staff / rooms available to care for you in.

September is our busiest time of year (all those Christmas and New Year pregnancies arriving) so I’m sure they are trying their best to get through the workload and I hope they are looking after you and keeping you updated. They will be keen to get you going as soon as they can as delaying inductions means the next batch of women booked for induction can’t be started either so hopefully no more emergencies and you will meet your little one soon. Good luck!

Hi last pregnancy I had 2 pessaries 6 hours apart then my waters broken and my daughter flew out 2 hours later.

Currently was due to be induced yesterday and am still at home waiting on a bed, I'm a 'priority' as my daughter is on the 1st centile but last night there was 19 outstanding inductions waiting. They have told me to expect to be called tonight 🤷🏼‍♀️

MCMP13 · 03/09/2022 19:53

Fingers crossed it is soon for you. I had mine broken at 4pm and then straight on the drip, I was in agony so they’ve had to turn it down and now just hoping he comes soon x

I waited 4 days for a labour ward bed. Yup - 4 days. Anyway after they popped my waters and put me on the drip I was 10cm in about 8 hours and DD born 3 hours after that (fruitless pushing, instrumental). I would strongly suggest an epidural. Good luck and let us know how you get on!

Waters broken at 8:30 pm and baby born at. 10pm, it was fast!

20viona · 03/09/2022 20:12

@MCMP13 good luck! I still haven't heard anything, so annoying.

Dyra · 03/09/2022 20:32

@MCMP13 Glad things are underway at long last! Rubbish the drip has caused so much pain, and I hope baby will be here soon.

@20viona Hoping tonight will be the night for you. Try phoning after 10pm? See where you are on the list.

20viona · 04/09/2022 07:34

@MCMP13 I hope you have a baby in your arms now!

Well no phone call overnight here, I just called and offloaded some tears on some poor midwife and they have got me in at 10am for monitoring but can't tell me anything else. She said on her 4 bed induction bay only one got called to delivery last night. The waiting it killing me.

MCMP13 · 04/09/2022 19:39

The wards here are all also super busy and they have a back log of inductions .

My waters were broken at 4.20. Went from 3cm at 10:30 to 9cm at 2:30 and he arrived at 7:13 this morning. So in love. Good luck to you I hope it’s soon xx

@MCMP13 a congratulations x x

CatSophie · 04/09/2022 19:55

I had an out patient induction with the pessary inserted at 10.30am on Weds, contractions started at 1.30am on Thurs and went back into hospital at 10am on Thurs. I was 3-4cm dilated and this hadn't changed by 3pm so they broke my waters but still didn't progress. At 12.30am on Friday babies heart rate has dropped so I ended up having an emergency c section with baby being born at 12.48 🙂
