Elective section date? Due Xmas day

Hey all,

I had my first consultant appointment the other week to discuss my labour preference with my second pregnancy. I had emergency section first time round. I’m happy to go ahead with an elective section however the consultant was pushing for VBAC.
I was wondering when people are scheduled in for their elective section. I am due Xmas day and would rather it not be Xmas day. As I’m sure everyday is the same in a hospital. Xmas or not. Would I be likely scheduled in for 39 weeks 18th dec or my due date of 25/12. I have very good pregnancies with no complications just had a very long labour last time with failure to dialate and reduced heart rate. I was 40+9 with my first.
I will be birthing at Pinderfields Wakefield If this helps?

hope you can all help me out!!
Thanks xx

It’s usually 39 weeks.

I had mine at 39+4 at Xmas as they were full with all bank holiday. She was due 2nd Jan and born 30th dec

It’s usually at 39 weeks or as close to so that you don’t go into spontaneous labour. I’d be very surprised if they carried out elective sections on xmas day anyway. They want to have as few staff in as possible.

Merryclaire · 01/09/2022 14:11

They won’t schedule in electives on Xmas day. It will likely be earlier in 39th week

SomethingFast · 01/09/2022 14:16

I was given a choice of three days from 39+2 onwards.

My hospital only does electives on Tues or Wed so worth checking if they do specific days. Because of this I should have been 39+5 or 39+6 but successfully argued for 38+6 as I'm so done with being pregnant (and previously had early deliveries).

Sounds like yours will be between 18 and 24 Dec.

Allgoodthings1 · 01/09/2022 16:00

You’d likely be week of 19th as they won’t do electives at the weekend in most hospitals but it will be in the 39th week

My hospital doesn't do elective sections on weekends or on bank holidays. Staff need time off too! I was originally booked in for an elective section for 31st December (39 weeks) but I didn't want a NYE baby. My midwife asked to get it changed and I was then booked in for 40 weeks which was a much better date. But I appreciate that not every hospital will change the date, I think I just got lucky.

Jaaxe · 01/09/2022 19:13

They’ll do it from 39 weeks any time that week unless there is a good reason to do it before. They will give you a date later on in your pregnancy, you’ll have another consultant appt to sign consent form, discuss risks and be booked for one but be aware the date they book you for section could change if they get alot of emergencies in as theyll do it on clinical need. Obviously they wouldn’t book electives on weekends or bank holidays, they’re working on skeleton staff these days. You’re looking at the week of the 19th to be sectioned realistically x

I’m due 2nd Jan. They would normally book at 39weeks at my hosp but that would be Boxing Day. 27th is also a bank hol this year so I’m booked for 39+2 on 28th Dec

MrsLoz · 01/09/2022 21:53

I’m having an elective at pinderfields later this month. I have gestational diabetes and have been given a date at 39+6. They would have done it bang on 40 but that’s a weekend.

Toz13 · 02/09/2022 07:37

Hello all,

Thank you so much for your knowledge and advice. Seen as though 25th Dec falls on bank hol and a weekend. You’re probably right in saying from the 19th Dec on wards. I had a feeling they’d push me more for around due date so I bet it’ll be 22/23/24. I have my next consultant app 15th nov so looking forward to seeing what they say.

thank you!!

@Toz13 just wondering if you have a date yet? Am in very similar position!

Toz13 · 24/11/2022 07:57

Yes! I’ve been booked in for 20th Dec. Was given choice of either 19th or 20th. My hospital won’t do them on weekends or BH xx @Bizzyone
