Hi everyone,

what would you recommend wearing to leave the hospital post baby? I was thinking maternity leggings and oversized T-shirt/shirt. I’m due in 2.5 weeks so will be mid/end Sept?

Thank you. X

I’ve always taken normal jeans and a top to come home in because I’ve never had a tummy after giving birth. And I’m not a fan of leggings either. But I think a lot of women just wear leggings home. Maybe wait and see, then someone can always bring you in something to wear home when they pick you and baby up.

I had some really lightweight overbump joggers, loose t shirt, a maternity hoodie and huge pants!

Something soft and comfy, nothing tight I’d say.

Flip flops too- this was in January but so much easier to slip on

Good luck!

soft cotton dress and flip flops here!

Whoever said jeans is a psychopath

And maternity units are hotter than the sun!

Yeah good idea!
I had planned to wear leggings and a t shirt dress, ended up just in pyjamas and dressing gown as I left at midnight!

Thank you all for your replies, I think I will take 2 options in case of a section and will think about tops easy for bf too- luckily we are only about 10/15 mins away from hospital but want to be prepared so we don’t have to pop home etc. thanks everyone! X

I would go for a loose fit dress personally just incase you need a section. I had a c section and didnt want to be wearing leggings/ trousers that were any where near the scar initially. comfy cardigan over the top and definitely reiterate what pp said about swollen feet! worth thinking about that too

My top tip is to pack an extra bag to keep in the car in case you end up in for extra time or the weather is very different to when you went in. I had another change of clothes, spare pants, more clothes for the baby, shampoo, a fan (which I needed as it was so hot), extra snacks etc etc

I remember having this daydream of me gliding out of the ward in a beautiful flowy maxi dress and sunglasses and lipstick - do not attempt this!

Big pants. Loose comfy t shirt and trousers. Lots of people have feet swelling so comfy shows for sure.

I did enjoy a nice handcream and lipbalm to make myself feel better!

Dont forget big sanitary pads.

I used to know somebody who walked out of hospital in her pre-pregnancy, size 8 jeans. She said it never occurred to her that they wouldn't fit after she'd given birth. Yes, we all chipped in for the hitman.

I was going to wear leggings but sh*t myself (thank you c section..) ended up with huge bright pink velour trousers my husband bought in a panic 😂
