PLEASE HELP & GIVE ME SOME ADVICE…NOT PREGNANT BUT STILL TESTING POSITIVE!

So I tested positive on the 6th of august. I worked out I was about 5 weeks pregnant. Tests started to get lighter & I started spotting & then bled for 10 days.
Even though the tests are lighter I’m still testing positive! It’s faded but still there.

I went to the hospital on the 24th & they scanned me & couldn’t see anything on scan. The hospital also did a strip test they said they would expect it to be negative after another week, but that's not looking very likely. I know that I’m not pregnant anymore but why haven’t my tests turned negative yet?
I have to ring the hospital Wednesday to let them know that my tests are still faint positives.
Does anybody know what the next step will be?
Will they leave me again for a couple weeks to see if they go negative?
Will they have me in for a D&C even though they couldn’t see anything on the scan?

Odd. They have scanned you and nothing, so not even ectopic. Are you on the pill OP?

@londonlass71 they said they couldn’t see anything! No not on the pill, have been trying to conceive for almost 2 years😩

Could you have miscarried in the heavy bleed? I assume you told them you ahve a heavy bleed? What did they say?

I was still testing strong positive until just after 5 weeks when I had a MC.

@londonlass71 Yes I’ve miscarried but it was just a normal bleed not really heavy and no clots, which is why I think it must still be in there somewhere but so strange that nothing has showed up on the scan.

It might just take a bit longer, but it could be retained tissue. They can treat that with tablets if it's that early. Personally I would give it a few more days then back to GP x

It takes a few weeks for the hcg to drop. So positive tests after miscarriage are common. Since there's nothing at the scan, you probably fully eliminated the pregnancy and no DC should be needed. All should be normal once you get your period
I've been through a similar situation a couple of months ago. Now we are trying again to conceive.

Similar happened to me. Hospital told me I’d miscarried, test again in a week, if still positive to call back to early pregnancy unit.
Turns out I was having an ectopic, but they couldn’t see anything on scans. I was treated as a ‘pregnancy of unknown location’ and was closely monitored. Bloods taken every 2nd day. Endless scans until they found the poor wee embryo in one of my tubes. I was then given methotrexate to end things. Still makes me feel sad and it was nearly 10 years ago now.

Pregnancy is quite small at 5 weeks, especially if not developed normally. Mine for example was not visible at 5 weeks. I had a blighted ovum and miscarriaged at 8 weeks. I only felt when I passed the sac, no clots really, but I did bleed quite a lot.

I was testing positive after 4 weeks since heavy bleeding. They scanned me and it turned out to be ectopic. I didn't need any intervention because it was resolving by itself, but I did have to be monitored with blood tests for about 2 months until my blood hCG level was at zero. They will probably do the same for you as a next step - monitor blood hCG to see what's going on. Sorry you're going through this, it's so tough

Yes was going to say same. So small so may not have clotted or spotted anything. Sorry for your loss OP. The good news is you CAN conceive and you will again. X

No - no pain. Literally nothing other than a positive pregnancy test. Was v frustrating.

Hope you get some answers soon. I’d ask them to check your hcg via blood tests. Should give them (and you) a better understanding of what’s going on.

@Ana12345 @londonlass71 I miscarried at the beginning of June as well and thought it would be very similar as had quite a lot of clots then and I was just over 4 weeks so was even earlier again and the test soon went negative.

I’d be asking them to check again for an ectopic.

I had a rare heterotopic. Miscarried from the uterus and a couple of weeks later, a “secret” twin in the tube ruptured and nearly killed me.

I’d had perhaps four scans by that point, and none of them had detected the ectopic pregnancy.

Same as PP, I had a similar experience where I was monitored very closely and had bloods done every 2 days. This went on for about 3 weeks until I was finally told it was a pregnancy of unknown location and I was also given methotrexate. They never did find the where the pregnancy was, even though my HCG continued to increase. Hope you're ok OP! X
