Progesterone Suppositories & Cervix

Hello!

I started using progesterone suppository 400mg twice a day last week after attending at EPU following some bleeding. I have had two previous MC and no children.

i have noticed for the last two days that when inserting them I can’t put them in as far as I assume my cervix has dropped and is in the way more now.

has anyone had this issue? Nervous that the cervix getting lower may mean impending miscarriage as couldn’t feel anything in the way when inserting previously.

thanks

How far are you able to insert it, as in how much of your finger/to which knuckle?

Rainbowchasing2022 · 30/08/2022 10:11

@Alanajs with the index finger I can insert all the way in but can feel the cervix there.

Its like as if I can push the pessaries to the side of the cervix but feels weird why it’s there all of a sudden. When I was initially inserting there was nothing there so cervix must have been very high and out of the way.

im very much expecting a MC given I’ve had two previous. No idea what happened with cervix in those as wasn’t using progesterone to know xx

I had this same problem. My cervix was super low in the mornings and some evenings, about 2cms from the opening. I was terrified but got checked out at the hospital and they were happy with it. They told me it was important to carry on using the pessaries vaginally and to always put it toward the back of the vagina, always push it down towards your bum, as high up as is comfortable and make sure it never touches the ‘middle’ or the cervix if that makes sense? I was also told to lie down after inserting it for 20-30 minutes as with the cervix being low it’s obviously easier for it to come out before it’s had a chance to absorb. I’m currently 34 weeks pregnant and my cervix has been fine for a while now.

I feel like I’m the same Iv been taking it for a week now too for the same reason as you.. two previous miscarriages. Iv been doing mine with my legs in the air to prevent leakage and now I’m not sure if that’s the best thing to do I really don’t no. If this is any reassurance I was speaking to my consultant today and I mentioned to her that I think my cervix is about a finger length in and she said that that was ok and getting the pessary in a fingers length is ideal! Do you have any symptoms like you had the previous times?

@LittleRobins rhank for you taking the time to respond. Nice to see a doctor wasn’t concerned with a low cervix.

@Alanajs that is good and reassuring for you. They do say lying down can be a better way.

I have just started spotting. So think it is MC no3 for me. Sadly I am on holiday too so can’t even get to the EPU or local hospital today/GP today. Don’t have car with me either so will need to wait until tomorrow to get home 😔 knew it was a bad idea to come.

Ohh noo @Rainbowchasing2022 are you having any cramping or pain or anything at the moment? I have heard that sometimes the suppositories can cause irritation to the cervix which can cause spotting but I no it means little and is no reassurance when you can’t get checked out!! The exact same thing happened to me during my second mc we were on holidays and it made everything so much worse!! Hold out as best as you can your not out yet!! But I no this is the worse feeling in the world!! Xx

Rainbowchasing2022 · 31/08/2022 06:35

@Alanajs yep. Definitely a miscarriage. Know the feeling too well when it’s happened twice before. Sad actually as me and my OH said this would be our last shot at pregnancy as the mental trauma from the others has just been too much. End of the road for us becoming parents now 💔
