Hi all, I'm new to this Blush

My last period was 13/7/2022 , I came off the contraceptive patch in May so this was my first proper period.

I found out that I was pregnant about 5 days ago by surprise!

I did take a pregnancy test early with a clear blue but it was negative so just assumed it didn't happen this month.

I was abit concerned as I didn't have one symptom.

My tests are very dark, clear blue is moving up is now at 3+.

I had a early scan today at the early pregnancy unit, they have measured me at 5 weeks, they can see a sac and yolk but no heartbeat yet.. they have asked me to go back in two weeks???

Can this happen? I should be 6 weeks but measuring 5???
Just confused/sad :(
I have to go back in two weeks for a check to see what's going on.
They didn't seem concerned?!?!

Any advice or stories would be so so appreciated xx

Hi, do you know exactly when you ovulated if not you could've ovulated later than you thought & then implanted later too, this happened to me I ovulated later in the month due to covid, had bloods done & an early scan, hcg came back high but nothing was seen on scan so had to go back 2 weeks later also & there was a tiny baby with a heartbeat, i'm now currently 16+3 wks 😊

I don’t think it’s unusual to be a week or so out, so I’m not surprised they weren’t concerned. Unless you took a test you won’t know when you ovulated - even if you did, implantation can happen anywhere between 6 and 12 days after. Try and be relaxed about, easier said than done I know but otherwise it will a long 2 weeks.

My first thought was it's to do with ovulation

It's too early and too minor a difference, why did you need a scan in epu, what was wrong?

Hi all,

Thanks so much for all the comments.

I don't exactly know when I ovulated, I normally go by my discharge (sorry tmi), I do think I ovulated late that cycle because I didn't get the fertile discharge until cycle day 17/18. But who knows? So difficult when I only stopped the patch in late May and that was my first and only proper cycle.

So they measured me at 5 weeks today, could see yolk/ sac but no embryo yet but the scan lady did not seem concerned or the nurse who spoke to me afterwards.

I went for the early scan due to previous miscarriage so the doctor wanted to check.

:)

My cycle is normally 30/31 days or so.

If you ovulated late then it’s definitely possible that that’s why - I ovulate on day 18/19 and I’m nearly a week behind where I ‘should’ be according to my last period. If I go by my last period I’m 6 weeks 6 days but I know that I’m not, I’m actually 6 weeks 1 day. If you count the day you think you ovulated as 2 weeks pregnant and count on from then you might get a better idea.

It's to be expected @shansmith22 if your cycles are longer than the standard 28 days and you ovulate later than day 14. Also bear in mind the LO is incredibly small and measurements are approximate - my early scan reports said "estimated gestation +/- 4 days". I had my first scan at 8+ weeks and measured 5 days behind my LMP (my cycles are 28-29d but I ovulate late), if I went at 6 weeks I might not have seen anything. 13 weeks atm and all looked good on my dating can, they just adjusted my gestation and due date accordingly - still 5-6 days behind.

Understand the worry though - in my previous pregnancy I had a MC, was measuring over 2 weeks behind with some other issues - when it's that much, odds are not good. But within a week +/- is very common and not a worry at this stage. I hope you see good growth and a strong HB next time x
