HG in early pregnancy

Hi I have just recently found out I'm pregnant. I'm very early only 5 weeks but I'm just out of hospital where I had to stay for 4 days on a drip because I was severely vomiting! Couldn't keep any thing down! I'm home now with tablets but I am in need of some advice as to what to take that maybe has helped people before to control their sickness with this sort of thing!

Thank you

I had HG until around 16 weeks honestly the only thing that worked for me was making sure I took the sickness tablets. If I was even half an hour late with the second dose I was vomiting and couldn’t stop. I used to take a tablet straight away on a morning have cereal and toast with tea have a light lunch and take my second dose and have a good meal on a night time. I never forced myself to eat and sometimes all I could manage was plain crackers or a half can of soup at the beginning. Just listen to your body and don’t force anything. Good luck x

Aw thank you, I haven't been able to eat that much from last Sunday. It's the most horrible feeling but I know it will be so worth it in the end. I've started drinking ginger and it's doing OK so far. I don't find the tablets the hospital give much good but they are better than nothing!

Thank you

@Firsttimemamma30 its takes a little while for them to get into your system I think after about 4 weeks I could eat a little bit more just stick with it x

Sorry to hear you're suffering Flowers There is a HG support thread on Mumsnet which is very good.

I have found that only steroids have controlled the HG so far this time but they come with a whole range of awful side effects so push for whatever anti sickness drugs they will give you. They didn't work for me so I ended up with steroids. Nausea and sickness very much reduced and I could eat but it decimates your immune system and the water retention has made me look like the Michelin man but I can eat without being sick.

Look after yourself and get as much rest as you can.

My brother in law got me ginger ale and the difference between how I felt yesterday and today is night and day. Its really helped. I dont think the medication the hospital give me is much good but I'm taking it anyway. Was able to keep down a few chips today. Going to keep sipping at the ginger ale so fingers crossed it keeps up the good work

Thank you
