Smoking whilst pregnant

Jcra · 27/08/2022 04:13

I am 6 weeks pregnant with my second child 10 years apart I smoked when I was pregnant with my daughter only 2 to 3 a day I cut down alot and she was perfectly healthy 8 pound baby. With this one I am finding myself smoking around 5 to 6 a day I absolutly hate it and I feel so ashamed and heartbroken that I carnt stop for the sake of my child the guilt is killing me but my god it is so so hard.
I have mentioned this to midwife and she has referred me to a non smoking clinic to help me so fingers crossed I can stop.

OP posts:

@ShedHead7 yes. I do. And I also know there are a lot more pollutants in the air than cigarette smoke. Carbon monoxide for example. Do you know the damage that causes?
What about fragranced candles? Air fresheners? Do we know the damage breathing in those things do? Yes they can, and do cause cancer. Same as cleaning products.
What about after the baby is born? Pushing it in a pram at lung height of traffic? Anyone ever push a baby in a pram where there's traffic? Shame on you.
There are worse a pregnant woman can do besides smoke. Pregnant women have always smoked, only now most who smoke do on the quiet and won't seek help because they've seen the ridiculous sanctimony here.
The op was looking for advice, no need for the high and mighty attitudes.

Pregnant women have always smoked, The air contains more pollutants (no, no it doesn't) fragrances candles are toxic.
These are all excuses.

ShedHead7 · 27/08/2022 14:19

@Unforgettablefire and suggesting that pregnant women smoke and keep quiet due to sanctimony on Mumsnet is clearly batshit. Pregnant women don't smoke because it can kill their baby.

Unforgettablefire · 27/08/2022 14:19

Yes. I know the dangers of smoking. What is breathed in when you smoke. You don't need to educate me.
You are inventing things I've never said. And saying I'm making bullshit excuses. For what?

willowglass · 27/08/2022 14:20

There are going to be a lot harder things you have to do in life for you kids as a mum, than giving up smoking. Are they going to be too hard too?

You clearly do need to be educated, because you think that the air is more toxic than cigarette smoke.

ShedHead7 · 27/08/2022 14:22

And you're making bullshit excuses to make yourself feel better about smoking when you were pregnant.

The Op posted in the Pregnancy topic for advice. Perhaps you should go on AIBU and find a thread to give someone a good kicking.

Unforgettablefire · 27/08/2022 14:22

Again, @ShedHead7 worse and more are two completely different things.

I did not insinuate "worse" by saying more at all. Kindly stop inventing bullshit and twisting what I said.

Unforgettablefire · 27/08/2022 14:24

Oh please. Now where did I say I smoked when I was pregnant?

I didn't say worse on my last post, I said more. Read it again. You said the air is more toxic than cigarette smoke.

ShedHead7 · 27/08/2022 14:25

@Unforgettablefire "Oh please. Now where did I say I smoked when I was pregnant?"
You didn't have to, it's obvious.

ShedHead7 · 27/08/2022 14:26

So if something has more pollutants than something else, it is magically less polluting? 🤔🤔

Unforgettablefire · 27/08/2022 14:27

Twice now you've invented things I've never said 🤡

As I and op have pointed out, the op is looking for advice. What is your problem?

What have I invented that you haven't said (apart from you smoking while pregnant)
You said that the air contains more pollutants than cigarette smoke (but somehow that doesn't mean it's more pillorying though lol)
That statement is not just untrue, it's ridiculous.
And what help are you giving the OP by telling her such untrue things eh?
What help is it telling her that pregnant women have always smoked? Yes pregnant women have, and babies and children of those women have always died because their mother smoked when pregnant? You didn't go on to tell her that though did you.

Unforgettablefire · 27/08/2022 14:33

@ShedHead7 I didn't smoke actually. But that's not the point, is it a crime if I did? No. Is it your business if I did? No.
Stop making things up and twisting things.

BryceQuinlanTheFirst · 27/08/2022 14:34

You know it's awful
You know you need to quit.

What were your hopes for this thread? You're going to get a range of answers.

You're the one making things up! Things that are very dangerous! You should not tell people health/medical advice that isn't true!
And no, it's not illegal, but it should be, because it's child abuse. Performing an activity, for your own benefit, that you KNOW, has every risk of harming your child in some way.

Unforgettablefire · 27/08/2022 14:41

@ShedHead7 yet again, worse and more are two different things. I never said the word worse I said more. What is it you don't get about the difference?
My last reply to you. You're unbelievably annoying and you're boring me.

If two things contain bad ingredients, and one of those things contains MORE bad ingredients, which one is worse?

Anon50000 · 27/08/2022 14:46

OP, I hope the non smoking clinic helps you to quit. Best of luck.

Right, you don't seem to understand. You said that the air has MORE pollutants, than cigarette smoke (I'm not saying worse, I'm saying MORE, just like you said)
THIS IS NOT TRUE! so why do you insist on repeating it, it is dangerous.

ShedHead7 · 27/08/2022 14:48

@Anon50000 hey Anon, did you smoke when you were pregnant as well then? Because the only people who get this angry with people who are so against it, are people that did.

Anon50000 · 27/08/2022 14:50

@Anon50000 that will be a yes then.
