Sterilisation at C section

Hi this is probably the wrong board as everyone is pregnant but just in case anyone has family/friends whose experience they can share! I’ve been offered sterilisation when I have my elective section. Seems the right decision for us but just wanted to ask if anyone has had this and what the pain/recovery was like. I have had 2 x c sections before. The leaflet says the pain can be worse/slower recovery after sterilisation as well. Did anyone find it particularly worse? Thanks

What are they suggesting? I want my fallopian tubes removed at my section. This has the added benefit of reducing risk of ovarian cancer. I wouldn’t just want my “tubes tied”.

I was sterilised during my last c section and it was absolutely fine. Recovered well.

I just had them clipped. It took maybe 5 minutes longer. Recovery was fine, but it was an elective section and I'm comparing it to my emergency section recovery.

There is a high risk of failure at an emergency section versus an elective.

My sister had her tubes tied during an elective section. She found the recovery no worse than previous elective recoveries but the tubes repaired themselves and she ended up pregnant again. For that reason alone I would never do it

I had mine done during an elective too. Really no difference between that one and my first elective other than a few extra minutes after the baby was delivered.

I had tube removed due to a cyst on my Fallopian tube. I think recovery took longer but I was up and about and carried on ok

I had my tubes removed during my 4th section. Surgery took about 10 mins longer, pain was a little increased but not by much and recovery was the usual amount of time.

Thanks, they’ve offered the clips, haven’t mentioned removing the tubes. I am slightly nervous about the failure rate, 1 in 200 apparently but did want an alternative to the pill afterwards this time so could still be a good option. Pleased to hear no one’s recovery was any worse. Thanks for sharing

You could do bbt temping for contraception instead of the pill! It works well, the natural cycles app is very good. Just as another option!
