Biggest shock of my life

I've joined this group specifically because I need to talk about what I've just discovered - 44 years old, unprotected s$x with my husband for well over 20 years (had a miscarriage with him when I was 21) - resigned myself to never having a baby of my own. Every time a friend or colleague got pregnant I became more comfortable with it just being me and him for the rest of our lives....
I thought my period was due, sore boobs etc. Had some very light spotting yesterday which I assumed was the start of my period, then nothing. Realised period was late (usually 28 days like clockwork), funny taste in my mouth, super sensitive sense of smell. Thought it was in my head but went to get a test anyway (part of me kind of 'knew') - got a very strong positive - didn't believe it so did another. Then went back to get a digital one which says 3+ weeks. I daren't be happy yet, I'm just stunned.

But there is a slight difference. You said it was anecdotal 😆 of course it can’t be reliably used to predict the sex but there is evidence behind it.

Please stop this and get back to thread. It’s not interesting.

That amazing @Shocked44 , huge congratulations 🎊

Shocked44 · 04/11/2022 11:46

Another update from today - had to go see a consultant at the hospital because of a previous biopsy that was taken from my womb - this was to rule out weakening of my cervix. Also had measurements taken and all was absolutely perfect :-) and saw the baby and heard heartbeat again, which I wasn't expecting, hubby was with me too so it was a little emotional!
Only slight issue today was my blood pressure was through the roof but they kept me on the assessment unit and it came down as I relaxed. I have to go back next week for monitoring so I'll have to work on relaxing beforehand!

Brilliant news! Practise relaxing! I’m just 40 with a 3 week old and a 3 year old

theblackradiator · 04/11/2022 16:36

Aww lovely news that all is going well. I suppose your blood pressure was high because of nerves and worry incase all wasn't well. sounds like all is going well so try and relax and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy how many weeks along are you now? this will be your last Christmas as a couple next Christmas you'll be a little family and be buying baby gifts for under the tree 🥰 congratulations

Oh my gosh @Shocked44 I'm so pleased for you! When is your due date? I'm due April 20th 2023 with mine and my husbands first! It's so exciting isn't it! I hope everything is going well for you - I was knocked for 6 with nausea and now having trouble sleeping and feeling cold for often than reasonable haha! But otherwise it's been quite smooth. So much love to you, your husband, and your little sproglet! Xx

I am so happy for you!!! Brought a tear to my eye, am feeling emotional in 2ww aged 43, your thread brings hope thank you. Try and rest as much as you can, eat bananas and gentle walking for the blood pressure. I find taking bp at home really helps as you are less anxious.

44Penny · 14/11/2022 09:34

Congratulations, scrolling through Google today and stumbled on your post.
44 years old and got a BFP today and am in absolute shock also. Almost 5 weeks if going by my last date..
Definitely was not expecting this as I thought there was no way at my age. Think it will take a few days to settle in..

Thank you..
I have spent much of my sleepless night scrolling through these forums. Took another test this morning as I am still somewhat in denial and it came up positive instantly.

Just take each day as it comes is great advice.. x

Is ok.

Shocked44 · 11/01/2023 22:20

I'm doing well thank you. Will be 25 weeks on Friday and bump seems to be getting bigger every day. It's not been plain I sailing thanks to some historic issues but I'm being monitored closely. On the countdown now to meeting my little miracle :-)
