Biggest shock of my life

I've joined this group specifically because I need to talk about what I've just discovered - 44 years old, unprotected s$x with my husband for well over 20 years (had a miscarriage with him when I was 21) - resigned myself to never having a baby of my own. Every time a friend or colleague got pregnant I became more comfortable with it just being me and him for the rest of our lives....
I thought my period was due, sore boobs etc. Had some very light spotting yesterday which I assumed was the start of my period, then nothing. Realised period was late (usually 28 days like clockwork), funny taste in my mouth, super sensitive sense of smell. Thought it was in my head but went to get a test anyway (part of me kind of 'knew') - got a very strong positive - didn't believe it so did another. Then went back to get a digital one which says 3+ weeks. I daren't be happy yet, I'm just stunned.

Morning all, just wanted to give another update - I heard baby's heart beat yesterday and it absolutely blew me away! Everything progressing well, my bump has well and truly made an appearance this week! I was worried about telling people because of my age but everyone has been so supportive and genuinely happy.
I'm still being sick every morning, but it's become part of my routine now!

That's wonderful @Shocked44 hearing that heartbeat is such a special moment. So happy to see your updates

Shinyandnew2022 · 28/10/2022 09:06

OP what a lovely update -I can just hear your excitement in every word!
When I had my first I was so thrillled to finally be pregnant (almost 40) it made all the symptoms much
More bearable as I was just happy it was all going according to plan- I was even excited when labour started.

What a lovely update 🌺🌸🌺
(the heartbeat not the being sick)

Il put money on it op that you are having a girl, just read a previous post of yours from August where you describe your all day sickness and the only thing that eases it is eating. that's the classic signs of a girl pregnancy and exactly how I was with my dd 15 years ago It was different with my son. congratulations and hope it continues to go well for you. I'll look forward to you announcing the arrival of your baby (daughter!😀) to us in the spring. congratulations 💐

I studied embryology and part of my study (although theory not fully tested) was the very obvious trend in our research to find naturally conceieve 'menopausal' babies have a tendancy to be boys.

OP is right on the cusp of that 'menopausal' age bracket we where looking at so I would guess boy.

I do agree I did have morning sickness with my DD and not my DS though.

LunaLoveFood · 01/11/2022 16:01

So pleased for you. Did you know that if you record the heartbeat you can have the sound waves turned into a picture.

So lovely to read your updates!

Pinktruffle · 02/11/2022 23:47

Lovely update @Shocked44 please keep us updated as things go along.

In regards to the people guessing gender based on morning sickness. I had all day sickness only eased by eating in both my pregnancies, I have 2 boys. I don't think sickness or cravings are any indication, it's all anecdotal.

Picoloangel · 03/11/2022 05:49

@mam0918 I had DD at 45!

rustcohlesmug · 03/11/2022 09:05

Lovely news OP. So happy for you! Hearing that little thumping heartbeat for the first time is priceless isn’t it?

It’s not that case that sickness = girls, more that with girls you have worse sickness. It’s been the case amongst everyone I know who has kids of both sexes.

Pinktruffle · 03/11/2022 12:59

@Cuppasoupmonster I understood the original comment and still disagree -its anecdotal. I had 20+ weeks of all day sickness with my boys, worse than anyone else I know, including my cousin who has 4 girls, including a set of twins. So I repeat, sickness and the quantity of it is no indication of gender, its anecdotal.

There’s actually scientific evidence to say you’re more likely to be sick if the baby is female

Pinktruffle · 03/11/2022 14:57

@Cuppasoupmonster and that research shows a marginal difference, not enough to make predictions.

Either way, we are derailing the OP's thread and should probably take this discussion elsewhere.

But there is a slight difference. You said it was anecdotal 😆 of course it can’t be reliably used to predict the sex but there is evidence behind it.

Pinktruffle · 03/11/2022 16:20

@Cuppasoupmonster but scientifically you can't draw conclusions from slight differences. Vegans/vegetarians are more prone to having girls too but it is a marginal difference so no real conclusion can be gained from it - it could be your sample size, or your study group for example so to say its anecdotal is not scientifically incorrect due to it only being a marginal difference.

I am bowing out of this conversation now as we are derailing the thread, feel free to start up another one and we can debate it there. If you respond here, I won't reply as OP started this thread for a reason and it wasn't to debate this.

Cuppasoupmonster · 03/11/2022 17:22

@Pinktruffle 😆

Some people just cannot admit they’re wrong can they 😂
