Hey, currently 27+4 weeks pregnant and suffering with a pre-existing umbilical hernia. My midwife doesn't seem to have experience with this. I have just been in hospital for 3 days due to it become large, hard and unable to retract, it was looking like surgery would be require but at high risk of early labour. The surgeon managed to manipulate it back in with force and morphine and basically said if it happen again it's back to a&e. The only way I can stop it happening is to lay flat all day. There doesn't seem to be anywhere to get advise and I am dreading labour, has anyone been through this? My obstetrician seems disinterested too - I have request to transfer so to this and other issues.

Can I ask why it wasn’t repaired before you got pregnant ?

@KangarooKenny as I was trying for a baby at the time I was examined (4 years ago) the surgeon advised against repair as it would not withstand pregnancy. The hernia was not a problem prior to pregnancy never painful more of a cosmetic issue. I was lead to believe wouldn't be an during pregnancy , I now know this is not the case.
