Would you stay off work or am I being precious?

Im not usually precious but I'm not sure what to do here.

Currently 32weeks with dc2.
I work in an intensive care environment and lately we've been swamped, short staffed and doing 13 hour shifts with 10minute breaks or no breaks.

Last week it all went a bit tits up and I ended up being admitted to maternity halfway through my shift due to tightenings and reduced movements. Luckily everything was OK.
They put me on the ctg which initially showed uterine irritability but that resolved after around 10 minutes of being laid down and resting. Movements went back to normal.
They did a fibronectin which was 25 so negative (positive is 50).
Told me it was probably braxton hicks and to rest and sent me home and that the pace at work wasn't helping (it's the same hospital).

I've took the rest of the week off work but I don't know whether to go back next week. Im feeling better, the tightenings are now few and far between. Next week is my last week so I don't know whether to go in or not. Things are still manic at work and I'm probably only feeling better because I've been resting at home.
On the other hand i don't want to let everyone else down when I might be ok if I go in.

Wwyd?

Honestly it sounds really stressful and I would probably go off now, I don’t think that would be unreasonable at all and you’re not too far from the end now 😊 good luck!

Janedoe82 · 20/08/2022 17:25

I would go off. It’s only a week.

drkpl · 20/08/2022 17:25

If you’ve only got a week to go then I’d just go off now and save yourself any further stress. I don’t think you’re being precious at all. I hope everything goes well 😄

Thanks everyone ☺

Agree with everyone else, I wouldn’t put yourself thru the extra week of stress, nobody will remember you went off a week early in a years time when you come back and certainly no one will thank you for coming in for the last week either. You might miss your “maternity leave and baby” present/ collection/ card from your work colleagues though 🤣 but they’ll no doubt post it out to you. xxx

I don't think you are there yet but remember there is a point that any sickness that is pregnancy related initiates your maternity leave .. cannot remember the gestation

Take care and good luck

tellyiscrap · 20/08/2022 18:52

Sorry just saw you are finishing next week anyway ..

Scorpio8 · 20/08/2022 18:58

I would just stop work now. I think you job quite stressful and being late in pregnancy would stop especially of you been admitted to hospital. I think you done well to keep going this long.
I am sure your work will understand well they will have to.

I've just been round tesco and now in pain with tightness and heaviness. I can't do 13 hours on my feet if I can't manage 20 minutes mooching round tesco.
I don't remember being this bad until around 35 weeks with DS and this little one is meant to be smaller 😬

I don't think you'd be being unreasonable to take time off at all. Sounds absolutely exhausting and very stressful I can imagine. All the best for your pregnancy op. Hope you can get some well earned rest! 💐

Your body is telling you you need to take it easy. I'd listen.

PinkPrawns2 · 20/08/2022 19:19

Just take the week off! I've got PGP (again) and managed until 34 weeks on the wards last time. I'm going non-clinical at 28 weeks this time, my body is already done. It's really not worth putting your body through it. Plus nobody says thank you for sticking it out (or they wouldn't where I work anyway 😐)

MamaH22 · 20/08/2022 19:21

Go off now, you need the rest xxx

hellywelly3 · 20/08/2022 19:24

Listen to your body it needs rest x

Exactly this. Don't think twice about it, get signed off or start your leave early.
