Hi,

just wondering if anyone else has ever had one of these whilst pregnant? I noticed it last Monday whilst shaving. It’s on the inside and I believe it’s turned into an abscess as there is visible pus.

Doctor gave me a week course of antibiotics, currently on day 5 and it’s still there as ugly as ever!

if you had one in pregnancy did the antibiotics work or did you have to have it removed?

I am just a bit scared of it turning even nastier! I’m going to ring the doctors again Monday to see what to do next, but currently very anxious over the weekend :(

I had one when I was pregnant with ds, antibiotics cleared it up. They're bloody painful though !!

@thunderonlyhappenswhenits ah I was really hoping these antibiotics would clear it but all they’ve done is made me feel nauseous :( the only other options are surgical draining in hospital! Which I’m assuming they’ll do as they won’t want it there for birth!

I've had a few of these - not fun! In my experience of the more stubborn ones , they will try another course of antibiotics before they attempt the surgical option. I've never needed one surgically draining so fingers crossed.

Have you tried the hot compresses etc? I did find them very helpful.

It’s the Bartholin duct that’s got the abscess not the gland so it’s inside the vagina :/

I've had one and it had to be drained, the Doctor didn't even discuss antibiotics she just called the hospital

@ChloeHel
I have one on both sides even before pregnancy, antis do nothing for me but doc wants to try and not do surgery as the duck they r in give you the cm so they r trying to avoid it but when flare up they r sore.

Idunnowhatsgoingon · 21/08/2022 19:52

Ive had one before but not while pregnant. I was under the illusion that the antibiotics weren't to... treat it, they were to try and stop it getting infected once it burst?

bloodywhitecat · 21/08/2022 19:54

Had one while pregnant, I had to have it removed surgically.

ChloeHel · 21/08/2022 20:11

@Idunnowhatsgoingon it is already infected as it has visible pus inside so wanted to try and treat the infection, but it’s made no difference after a week course!

@bloodywhitecat oh really? Did you have to be put under general or local? I was hoping they’d just drain it at the surgery, but probably not then :(

Calling them again tomorrow to get it looked at for a second time.
